Crochet Pumpkin
Materials:
- Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in color "Aaron"
- Polyfill stuffing
- 5 mm crochet hook
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
Pattern:
Foundation and Body:
- Create a slip knot.
- Chain 31.
- Skip the first chain. Starting in the second chain from the hook, crochet a half double crochet (HDC).
- HDC in each chain across. You will have 30 HDCs.
- Chain 1 and turn your work.
Creating the Ridges:
- HDC in the back loop only across the row. This technique creates the ridges.
- At the end of the row, chain 1 and turn.
- Repeat step 6 for a total of 28 rows to form the body of the pumpkin.
Closing the Body:
- Fold the piece in half with the ridges facing out and crochet the edges together using single crochets through both layers.
- Cut a long tail of yarn after the last single crochet, chain 1, pull through, and secure with a knot. Turn the piece right side out.
Forming the Pumpkin:
- Thread the yarn needle with the long tail of yarn.
- Sew a running stitch around the top opening of the pumpkin, pulling tight to cinch it closed. Secure with a few stitches.
- Stuff the pumpkin with Polyfill to desired firmness.
- Sew a running stitch around the bottom opening and pull tight to cinch closed. Secure with a few stitches.
Creating Pumpkin Sections:
- With the yarn needle still attached, pass the yarn through the center of the pumpkin from top to bottom.
- Wrap the yarn around the outside of the pumpkin and pass it through the center again, pulling tightly to create sections. Repeat until you have the desired number of pumpkin sections.
- Secure the yarn by passing it through the center a final time, and weave in the end.
Stem:
- Using a contrasting yarn color, chain 15.
- Starting in the second chain from the hook, single crochet in each chain (14 single crochets).
- Chain 1 and turn. For the next three rows, single crochet in the back loop only.
- After completing four rows total, fold the piece in half and slip stitch the edges together to form the stem.
- Attach the stem to the top of the pumpkin by threading the tail through the needle and sewing it in place.
- Weave in any remaining ends.
