Pattern:

Step 1: Slip Knot and Chain

  1. Start with a slip knot.
  2. Chain an odd number of stitches that will be the width of your bag.
    • For example, for a 12-inch-wide bag, chain 47 stitches.
    • For a wider bag (15 to 16 inches), chain 59 stitches.
  3. Once you have a chain that's the width of your bag, chain 4 more stitches.

Step 2: First Double Crochet and Row

  1. Double crochet into the seventh chain from the hook.
  2. Chain 1 and then double crochet into the next chain. Repeat from * to * until the end of the row.
  3. After completing the last double crochet, chain 1 and turn your work.

Step 3: Second Double Crochet into Base Chain

  1. Work a double crochet into the base chain where the first double crochet already is.
  2. Chain 1, then double crochet into the base chain next to the previous double crochet. Repeat from * to * until the end of the row.

Step 4: Completing the First Row

  1. Chain 1 and double crochet to make it symmetrical around the base chain.
  2. End the row with a chain 1 and a slip stitch into the third chain.

Step 5: Repeat Rows to Build Bag Height

  1. Chain 4 and double crochet into the top of the next double crochet.
  2. Chain 1 and double crochet into the next double crochet. Repeat from * to * and join with a slip stitch to the third chain of the initial chain 4.
  3. Repeat this row until the bag reaches your desired height (e.g., 18 rows for an 11-12 inch bag after stretching).

Step 6: Strap Setup

  1. Use stitch markers to divide the bag into thirds for the straps.
    • For example, if there are 24 double crochets, place markers after every 8 stitches on the front and back.
  2. Work the pattern normally until you reach the first stitch marker.
  3. Remove the marker and double crochet into the marked stitch.

Step 7: Straps

  1. Make a chain the total length of the desired strap (an odd number, e.g., 61 chains for a standard strap length).
  2. Attach the chain to the opposite side where the second marker is, with a double crochet.

Step 8: Strap Mesh Pattern

  1. Chain 1, skip two stitches, and then double crochet into the third chain.
  2. Repeat this until you reach the end of the strap chain.
  3. Chain 1, and slip stitch into the next double crochet on the bag.

Step 9: Reinforcing the Straps

  1. Slip stitch along the chain of the strap to reinforce it and prevent stretching.
  2. Repeat the mesh pattern until you reach the next strap marker and follow the same steps for the second strap.

4 a Save

Step 10: Finish

  1. Continue with the mesh pattern until you reach the beginning of that round.
  2. Fasten off and weave in your ends to secure the stitches.

Conclusion:
Your completed crochet mesh bag should be symmetrical with reinforced straps, ready for use. Enjoy your handmade creation!

Remember, this pattern can be adapted to any size or to variations in strap length and the number of rows for the main body of the bag. Feel free to modify the pattern to suit your needs.
