Final Measurements:

  • Width at Bottom: 17 inches
  • Middle Width: 15 inches
  • Height: 10 inches

Row 2 (Setup Row for Texture):

  • Single crochet in the first stitch (place a stitch marker), working under both loops.
  • For the next 31 stitches, single crochet in the back loop only.
  • End the row with four slip stitches in the last four stitches (place a stitch marker on the first of these slip stitches). Chain 1 and turn.

In Rows 3 to 6 (Short Rows):

  • Repeat the established pattern (4 slip stitches, single crochets in the back loop only, and ending with a single crochet under both loops) but with decreasing numbers of single crochets for each subsequent row to create a short row effect.
  • After Row 6, instead of turning and starting a new row immediately, continue into the next stitch past the marked stitch to elongate the row.

Row 7:

  • Begin with 4 slip stitches, then 31 single crochets in the back loop only.
  • End with a single crochet under both loops. Chain 1 and turn.

4 Save

Repeat Pattern:

  • Continue repeating Rows 2 to 7 until you achieve a total of 67 rows or until you have the desired length for the toque.

Closing the Toque:

  • After completing all rows, cut your yarn leaving a long tail for sewing (about 60 inches).
  • Use the mattress stitch to sew the sides together along the long edge.
  • To close off the top, thread the yarn through ridges at the top, pulling gently to gather. Secure and weave in ends.

5 Save

Finishing Touches:

  • Weave in any remaining ends securely.
