Materials Needed:

  • Knitting needles
  • Yarn

Pattern Instructions:

This pattern requires you to cast on stitches in multiples of 8 plus an additional 6 stitches for the pattern repeat and then 2 edge stitches.

For the demonstration, 33 stitches are cast on (which is [8 x 3] + 6 + 2 = 32 for the pattern and an extra stitch for symmetry).

Row 1 (RS - Right Side):

2 Save

Purl all stitches.

Row 2 (WS - Wrong Side):

  • Knit all stitches.

For Row 3 (RS):

  • Slip the first stitch purlwise with yarn in front, knit 6, slip 2 stitches purlwise with yarn in front, knit 6; repeat - to the end.

Row 4 (WS):

  • Slip the first stitch knitwise with yarn in the back, purl 6, slip 2 stitches knitwise with yarn in back, purl 6; repeat - to the end.

Rows 5 to 8:

3 Save

Repeat rows 3 and 4, two more times each.

For Row 9:

  • Same as row 1, purl all stitches.

Row 10:

Same as row 2, knit all stitches.

4 Save

Row 11 (RS):

  • Slip the first stitch as if to knit, knit 2, slip 2 stitches purlwise with yarn in front, knit 6; repeat - to the end until the last 5 stitches, then, slip 2 stitches purlwise with yarn in front, knit 2, and knit the last edge stitch.

For Row 12 (WS):

Slip the first stitch as if to purl, purl 2, slip 2 stitches knitwise with yarn in back, purl 6; repeat - to the end until the last 5 stitches, then, slip 2 stitches knitwise with yarn in back, purl 2, and purl the last edge stitch.

1 Save

Rows 13 to 16:

  • Repeat rows 11 and 12, two more times each.

After finishing row 16, these 16 rows form the complete pattern repeat. Continue repeating rows 1-16 for the length of your project.

This pattern looks beautiful for both the right and wrong sides. And it can be used for a variety of projects like sweaters, cardigans, or blankets. Remember to finish your piece with a border or edging of your choice for a clean look.
