Crochet Simple Christmas Stocking
Materials Needed:
- 35g of green yarn
- 60g of white yarn (Both yarns have a weight of 4)
- 4.5mm crochet hook
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
Pattern Overview:
- This crochet project is worked from the bottom up, following this sequence:
- Toe
- Body part 1
- Heel
- Body part 2
- Ribbing
- Hook
Detailed Pattern:
Starting with the Toe:
Create a Magic Ring:
- Wrap the yarn twice around your finger. Pull the outer loop over the inner loop, off your finger, and slide your hook into this loop. This becomes your magic ring.
Round 1:
- Chain 3, then work 12 double crochets (DC) into the magic ring. Slip stitch to the third chain of the beginning chain to close the ring.
Building the Body:
Round 2:
- Turn, chain 3. DC, DC increase; repeat around. You’ll have 18 stitches, excluding the chain.
Round 3:
- Turn, chain 3. 2 DC, DC increase; repeat around for a total of 24 stitches.
After Round 4:
- Turn, chain 3. 3 DC, DC increase; repeat around.
Round 5:
- Turn, chain 3. 4 DC, DC increase; repeat around for a total of 36 stitches.
Round 6:
- Similar to previous rounds with 5 DC, DC increase; repeat around for a total of 42 stitches.
In Round 7:
- 6 DC, DC increase; repeat around. On the last stitch, start a DC but switch colors by pulling through the new color on the last yarn over. You'll have 48 stitches.
Switching to V Stitches:
Round 8 with Green:
- Turn, chain 3. Begin V stitches: Skip 2, DC, chain 1, DC in the same stitch; repeat around. Make sure to include the initial chain 3 as a stitch for a seamless look.
Continuing Body in V Stitches:
Switch to White Yarn:
- Slip stitch with white to the chain space of a V stitch, turn, chain 3, and continue with V stitches following the previous pattern for 7 rounds, switching colors every other round.
Creating the Heel:
- Count 11 stitches to the right of where the green ended and attach white yarn. Chain 2, then work 22 DCs covering half of the circle for the heel.
- Work 4 rows, starting and ending each row with a decrease, reducing stitch count from 22 to 14.
- Reverse the process by increasing at the start and end of each row for 4 rows back to 22 stitches. Add an additional row of 22 DCs without increases.
- Fold the heel piece in half and single crochet the edges together. This forms the heel.
Completing the Body:
- Reattach the yarn at the heel and resume V stitches in alternating colors for 19 more rows, adding up to a total of 20 rows for the body.
Adding Ribbing:
- For the ribbing, chain 10 with white yarn and then work single crochets down the chain. Attach it to the body of the stocking with slip stitches.
- Work in back loop only single crochets back along the ribbing. Attach to the body with slip stitches at the end of each row. Use the first chain as a stitch marker to ensure alignment.
- Close the ribbing with slip stitches along the seam for a neat finish.
Making the Hook:
- Attach yarn at the end of the ribbing. Chain 10 and then slip stitch back into the base to form a loop. Fasten off.
Finishing Touches:
- Weave in all yarn ends.
- Turn the stocking inside out to conceal the color changes.
