This knitting stitch will create a textured, mermaid tail effect that’s beautiful for a variety of projects like sweaters, cardigans or even unique scarves.

Tips:

  • Always slip the first stitch of every row knitwise and work the last stitch as per the pattern (knit or purl) to ensure a neat edge.
  • Be mindful when working the slip stitches with yarn in front; make sure to bring the yarn to the front as if to purl, but instead slip the stitch purlwise.

Knit a test swatch first to see how the stitches align and to get comfortable with the movements required for this pattern. Enjoy knitting your Mermaid Stitch!
