This ornament is sure to brighten up any Christmas tree or make a perfect thoughtful addition to a holiday gift. It's a beautiful reminder of the warmth and love that the holiday season brings.

Materials Needed:

  • Sock yarn
  • Two toothpicks
  • Size 1 or Size 1.5 double-pointed knitting needles (DPNs)
  • Two small ornament hooks
  • Tapestry needle

Directions:

Starting the Piece:

Cast on 12 stitches using the size 1 or 1.5 DPNs. This number can be adjusted depending on the desired width of the fabric.

Choose to knit in garter stitch to avoid the fabric curling.

Knitting the Body:

  • Knit in garter stitch for approximately 1.5 to 2 inches.

Creating a Mini Yarn Ball:

  • Cut the working yarn, leaving an inch and a half tail.
  • Begin winding the yarn around one of the knitting needles to form a mini ball.
  • Continue winding until the yarn ball reaches the desired size.

Secure the mini ball by using the tapestry needle to take the tail through the center of the ball several times, then sew the mini ball to the front of the knit fabric to hold it in place.

Assembling the Ornament:

  • Transfer to Toothpicks: Carefully remove each stitch from the knitting needle and transfer it to a toothpick, ensuring the pointed end of the toothpick faces towards the side with the mini yarn ball.

Adding the Second Toothpick: Place the second toothpick through loops at the back of the work, crossing it with the first toothpick in an aesthetically pleasing manner.

Finishing Touches:

  • Attach Hooks: Use one ornament hook to stabilize it by threading through some loops at the back and between the fabric and the toothpicks. Use the second hook to provide additional support by threading it through the fabric near the mini yarn ball and folding it over to hide it.
  • No need to weave in any ends as the ornament will not be worn and should hold together just from the knitting.

Additional Tips:

  • This miniature project is not only a festive decoration but can also attach to gifts or used in various decorative ways.
  • Experiment with different yarn colors and toothpick placements for unique looks!
