Crochet Baby Seal Pattern Save

Materials Needed:

  • White yarn for the body and hind flippers
  • Beige or gray yarn for the muzzle
  • Black yarn for the muzzle's nose
  • Crochet hook
  • Stitch marker
  • Safety eyes
  • Stuffing material
  • Yarn needle

Body and Hind Flippers:

1 Save

Hind Flippers (Make 2):

For Round 1:

  • Start with a magic ring. Make 4 single crochet (sc) stitches inside the magic ring. Close the ring.

Round 2:

  • Increase in the first stitch (2 sc in the same stitch), then 1 sc, another increase, and end with 1 sc. (6 stitches total)

Rounds 3-4:

  • Sc in each stitch around. (6 stitches)
  • To finish, slip stitch in the next stitch, cut a short tail, and pull through to knot. Use the tail to stuff the flipper. Do not cut the yarn after finishing the second flipper.

Body:

2 Save

Round 5:

  • Join both flippers by doing 6 sc around the first flipper, then continue with 6 sc around the second flipper. (12 stitches total)

Round 6:

  • Start with 1 sc, then do an increase. Repeat the sequence around for a total of 18 stitches.

After Round 7:

  • Start with 4 sc, then do an increase followed by a sc. Repeat this sequence until you have 4 stitches left, then make 1 sc in each of the next 4 stitches. (23 stitches total)

3 Save

Round 8:

  • Make 12 sc, an increase, then 10 more sc. (24 stitches total)

Rounds 9-13:

  • Sc in each stitch around, maintaining 24 stitches.

In Round 14-16:

  • Follow the pattern's sequence, progressively decreasing as instructed until placing the safety eyes between rounds 15 and 16, aligned with the hind flippers.

Final Rounds:

  • Continue according to the pattern, decreasing until closing the body.

4 Save

Muzzle:

  • Create a magic ring with 6 sc inside. Close it but not too tightly.
  • Slip stitch to finish, and leave a long tail for sewing.
  • Use black yarn to embroider the nose, starting and finishing inside the muzzle.
  • Sew the muzzle to the face, aligning it with the eyes.

Four Flippers:

  • For each flipper, make a magic ring, start with 4 sc, and follow the pattern’s instructions for increase and decrease over the rounds.
  • After completing both flippers, sew them to the body at specified positions, ensuring they are symmetric and positioned correctly in relation to the eyes and muzzle.
  • Use the tails to stuff the flippers before sewing if needed, and hide all yarn ends securely.

Finishing Touches:

  • Securely attach and hide all yarn ends.
  • Ensure the safety eyes are securely attached and positioned correctly.
