Materials:

  • Sports weight or worsted weight yarn
  • Double pointed needles (DPNs) or circular needles size 4mm
  • Scissors
  • Darning needle for weaving in ends

Pattern:

Cast On and Toe:

  • Cast on 31 stitches using the double cast-on method.
  • Knit all the stitches (31 sts).
  • Increase row: Knit 1, make one (M1), knit 14, M1, knit 1, M1, knit 14, M1, knit 1 (35 sts).
  • Knit all the stitches.
  • Increase row: Knit 2, M1, knit 14, M1, knit 3, M1, knit 14, M1, knit 2 (39 sts).
  • Knit all the stitches.
  • Increase row: Knit 3, M1, knit 14, M1, knit 5, M1, knit 14, M1, knit 3 (43 sts).
  • Knit all the stitches.

Work 8 more rows of garter stitch (knit every row).

1 Save

Shaping the Top of the Foot:

Knit 19, turn your work, slip one, knit 8, slip one, knit one, pass slipped stitch over (s1,k1,psso), and turn your work.

  • Slip one, purl 7, purl two together (p2tog), and turn your work.
  • Slip one, knit 7, s1,k1,psso, and turn your work.
  • Continue with this pattern, decreasing at each end as established, until you have 33 stitches on your needle.

2 Save

Cuff:

Work on the ribbing by alternating knit 1, purl 1 to the end of the row.

  • Continue with the ribbing pattern for a desired length (~1 inch or longer), ensuring to knit the knits and purl the purls as they appear.

Bind Off:

Bind off in pattern (knit the knit stitches and purl the purl stitches) until all stitches are bound off.

3 Save

Finishing:

Cut the yarn, leaving a tail for sewing.

  • Use the darning needle to weave in all ends.
  • Sew the back of the bootie, including the ribbed cuff, and along the sole.

4 Save

Remember to make two booties for a pair. You can make size adjustments by using different yarn thicknesses and needle sizes as needed. Always check your gauge and adjust accordingly.
