Base of the Bag:

  1. Start with an Amigurumi Ring: Make a sliding loop as your foundation.
  2. Round 1: Into the ring, work 6 single crochet (sc). Tighten the ring by pulling the yarn tail.
  3. Round 2: Increase by making 2 sc in each stitch around (12 sc total).
  4. Round 3: Sc in the next stitch, 2 sc in the following stitch. Repeat - around (18 sc total).
  5. Round 4: Sc in the next 2 stitches, 2 sc in the following stitch. Repeat - around (24 sc total).
  6. Round 5: Sc in the next 3 stitches, 2 sc in the following stitch. Repeat - around (30 sc total).
  7. Round 6: Sc in the next 4 stitches, 2 sc in the following stitch. Repeat - around (36 sc total).
  8. Round 7: Sc in the next 5 stitches, 2 sc in the following stitch. Repeat - around (42 sc total).
  9. Round 8: Sc in the next 6 stitches, 2 sc in the following stitch. Repeat - around to make 48 sc. This concludes the increases for the base of the bag. Your circle should be approximately 16.5 to 17 cm in diameter depending on yarn thickness.

Body of the Bag:

  1. Transfer to Body: From now on, work in sc without increases to build up the sides of the bag.
  2. Rows 9-11: Sc in each stitch around. Optionally, add more rows for a deeper bag.
  3. Finishing: Make a seamless join on the last stitch of your final row. Weave in all ends securely.

Tips:

  • Seamless Join: For a professional finish, use a seamless join by pulling through the loop on the last stitch and closing the round with a slip stitch.
  • Steaming: It's recommended to steam the base circle before proceeding to the body to ensure it lays flat.
  • Zipper Attachment: Hand-sew the zipper onto the opening of the bag using floss thread for durability.
  • Adding the Chain: Attach metal rings to the sides of the bag, then connect the chain handle.
  • Decorative Touches: Add a decorative brush or other embellishments as desired.

This pattern provides a basic guide to creating a round handbag with knit yarn, adaptable with your creative touches. Happy knitting!
