Knit Scarf Pattern For Beginner Knitters
With just a little bit of yarn and some knitting needles, anyone can create a cozy, stylish scarf that's perfect for chilly days. It's truly a delightful project that brings warmth and fashion together. Kudos to this fantastic pattern that makes knitting both fun and rewarding.
Materials Needed:
- 8 mm (US 11) knitting needles
- Scissors
- Darning needle
- Crochet hook (approx. 5 mm) for tassels
- Yarn: Alize Maxi Batik (or similar), 79% Acrylic, 21% Wool - 4 skeins needed
Pattern Instructions:
Cast On: Cast on an uneven number of stitches. The example uses 27 stitches. Make sure your cast-on edge is not too tight.
Row 1:
- Slip the first stitch purl-wise with yarn in front.
- Knit the second stitch (this will serve as the border).
- Knit 1, bring yarn to front and slip the next stitch purl-wise
- Repeat from * to * until you have three stitches left.
- Knit 1, bring yarn to front and slip the next stitch purl-wise.
- Knit the last stitch.
Row 2:
- Slip the first stitch purl-wise with yarn in front.
- Knit the second stitch (border stitch).
- Purl the next stitch, knit the next two stitches together (inserting needle as if to purl but don't purl, just slip off as if you’re doing a yarn over)
- Repeat from * to * until three stitches remain.
- Purl 1, slip the next stitch purl-wise with yarn in front.
- Knit the last stitch.
Continue repeating Rows 1 and 2 until the scarf reaches your desired length (the example scarf was about 5 feet long without tassels).
Finishing:
- To cast off, begin with a Row 1 pattern. Work two stitches, then lift the first over the second stitch, and off the needle. Continue until you finish the row and have one loop left.
- Cut the yarn, leaving a tail, and pull it through the last loop to secure.
- Weave in ends with a darning needle, hiding the tail within the stitches.
Tassels:
- Cut strands of yarn to your desired tassel length, fold them in half.
- Using a crochet hook, pull the fold through the edge of the scarf, creating a loop.
- Pull the ends of the yarn through the loop and tighten to attach the tassel.
- Repeat these steps evenly along the edges of your scarf, trimming the tassels uniformly.
Enjoy your beautiful and cozy new scarf!
