Knit Santa Claus Hat
Materials:
- 46 needle Addi knitting machine
- Bernat premium yarn in red and white colors
- Clover pom pom maker (largest size)
- A contrasting color yarn for the waste yarn (green in the video)
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
Instructions:
Setup and Brim:
- Cast on with the waste yarn by putting it behind the first black needle, in front of the next, and continuing in this pattern all the way around.
- Knit 7 rows of waste yarn. You can knit a few more if needed to prevent unraveling.
- Switch to your working yarn (white) for the brim. Set the row counter to zero.
- Knit 40 rows with white yarn.
Joining the Cuff:
After completing the 40 rows of white, prepare to join the cuff by cutting the white yarn. Feeding the end between the last white and the first black needle.
- Set up the red yarn but before knitting, fold up the cuff to join it.
- Find the top loop in the waste yarn and hook it over the black needle, knitting it along with the new red yarn. Make sure both the red and the white yarns go underneath the hook of the needle as you attach the brim.
- Continue around the entire loom picking up the top white loops from the waste yarn and knitting with the red yarn.
- Once all loops are picked up, secure the tails and tie them off, ready to start knitting with the red yarn.
Body of the Beanie:
Knit 75 rows with the red yarn for the body of the Santa beanie.
- As the project grows in length and starts to touch the table, keep the tension by rolling the fabric into a donut shape.
Casting Off:
- Finish your last row with the red yarn and cut a long tail.
- Use the yarn needle to cast off stitches by running the needle through each one around the beanie.
Finalizing the Beanie:
- Remove the waste yarn carefully and tie off the white yarn ends by weaving them between the layers of the brim and snipping off the excess.
- Weave in the red yarn ends as well, ensuring that no colors show through to the other side.
Adding the Pom Pom:
Make a pom pom with the Clover pom pom maker.
- Secure the pom pom to the top of the beanie by threading the pom pom yarn tails through the top of the beanie and tying them securely inside.
Finishing Touches:
- Adjust the beanie for fit and fold to create the desired resting place of the brim.
- Use some red yarn to stitch together the pom pom top to the body of the beanie to prevent it from flopping around.
- Trim any excess yarn and make any necessary adjustments to ensure the beanie has a neat finish.
