Knit Baby Cardigan Pattern
Materials Needed:
- DK weight yarn (~105 meters per 50 grams)
- US6 (4mm) needles with a 24 or 32-inch cord (Magic Loop method), or DPNs for sleeves
- Stitch markers (4)
- Buttons (4)
- Ruler or measuring tape
- Scrap yarn
- Tapestry needle
Gauge:
- 21 stitches by 28 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch
Size:
- Zero to three months
Instructions:
Back & Front:
- Cast on 50 stitches using the long-tail cast on method.
- Knit in garter stitch for the neckline by knitting every row.
- Continue until the first button band row, where you knit the first and last three stitches and Purl across the rest.
- Set up for Raglan increases by placing stitch markers after knitting:
- Knit 3 (Button band), Knit 8, place marker, Knit 6, place marker, Knit 16 (Back), place marker, Knit 6, place marker, Knit 8, Knit 3 (Button band).
- Work the increases around the stitch markers with make one right (M1R) and make one left (M1L) on the right-side rows, followed by Purl rows on the wrong side.

Sleeves & Body Separation:

Knit all the way across for the body, including the new underarm stitches.
Lower Body:
Continue knitting the body until the piece measures 2.5 inches from the underarm separation.
