Knit i–Cord Bind Off Tutorial
Materials Needed:
- Yarn
- Knitting Needles
Instructions:
Add Three New Stitches:
- Start by adding three new stitches to your needle at the beginning of the cast-off row. There are various methods to do this, such as the backward loop method. Denny prefers a method that mimics knitting: you knit a stitch but do not drop it off the left needle; instead, you place the newly created loop back onto the left needle. Repeat this until you have three new stitches.
Begin the I-Cord Bind Off:
- Knit the first stitch.
- Knit the second stitch.
- Knit the third and another stitch together through their back loops. This reduces the stitch count back down after the initial addition of three stitches.
Transfer Stitches:
- After knitting these stitches, transfer the three stitches back onto the left needle. You'll notice the yarn now comes through the stitch behind.
Repeat the Process:
- Again, knit one stitch,
- Knit the second one,
- And knit two together through the back loop.
- Transfer the three stitches back to the left needle.
Continue:
- Repeat this process across the row. It's a slow method that requires patience and a good amount of yarn, as you're effectively knitting stitches several times.
Finishing:
- Once you've reached the last of your stitches and have only three left, you'll perform a standard cast-off for these last stitches.
- Continue until all stitches are bound off and your project has a neat, cleanly finished edge.
