Crochet Ruffle Scrunchie
Supplies Needed:
- Crochet hook (5mm)
- Yarn (Loops and Threads Acrylic Yarn, Soft Classic; approximately 365 yards)
- Hair tie (small to medium size)
Instructions:
Starting:
Attach Yarn to Hair Tie:
- Poke the crochet hook through the hair tie.
- Place your yarn over the hook, and bring it under the hair tie.
- Wrap yarn around the hook, and pull it through to secure (this doesn't count as a stitch).
First Row:
Single Crochets Around Hair Tie:
- Go under the hair tie, grab the yarn, and pull it forward.
- Wrap the yarn around the hook and pull through both loops.
- Continue single crocheting around the hair tie until it's fully covered. Secure the end of the row to the beginning with a slip stitch.
Second Row (start of Ruffles):
- Chain 1 to Start the Row.
Three Double Crochets in Each Stitch:
- Wrap the yarn around the hook, insert into the first stitch.
- Pull the yarn through, yarn over, pull through two loops, yarn over again, and pull through the remaining two loops (double crochet complete).
- Make two more double crochets into the same stitch.
- Repeat this process for each stitch around the hair tie.
Additional Rows:
Repeat Second Row's Pattern:
- A total of 3 rows including the second row, meaning after finishing the second row, you do two more rows in the same manner to add more ruffles and volume.
Adding a Border (optional):
Change Yarn Color (if desired) for the Border:
- Attach new yarn color by pulling through the last loops of your last double crochet.
- Chain 1 to start.
- Single crochet in the next stitch, chain 1, skip a stitch, and single crochet in the next. Continue this pattern all around the scrunchie.
- Secure the end with a slip stitch to the beginning of the border.
Finishing Touches:
Cut the Yarn and Weave in Ends:
- Once you've completed the border, cut the yarn leaving a small tail.
- Using a yarn needle or the crochet hook, weave in any loose ends for a neat finish.
