How To Crochet Honeycomb Stitch
Materials Needed:
- 4 Medium weight yarn (Color: Elizabeth or any of your choice)
- 5mm crochet hook
Pattern Instructions:
Foundation:
- Begin with an even number of chains to suit your project.
Row 1:
- Single crochet in the 2nd chain from the hook and in every chain across. Chain 1 and turn.
Row 2:
- Single crochet in each stitch across. Chain 1 and turn.
Honeycomb Stitch Pattern:
Row 3 (Setup Row for Honeycomb):
- Start with a single crochet in the first stitch.
- Then make one long single crochet by going down two rows and inserting the hook. Pull up the yarn slightly and complete the single crochet.
- Alternate between a regular single crochet in the next stitch and a long single crochet in the following stitch (down two rows) across to the end of the row.
- You will finish the row with a regular single crochet. Chain 1 and turn.
Row 4:
- Begin with 2 regular single crochets (one in each of the first 2 stitches).
- Perform a front post single crochet by combining the "loop" created from the long single crochet in the previous row (using the two loops; one from the left of the first loop and the right of the second loop) with a single crochet.
- Alternate between a regular single crochet and the front post single crochet all the way across, ending with two regular single crochets after the last set of loops.
- Chain 1 and turn.
After Row 5:
- Start with one long single crochet, going down two rows below and pulling up a slightly longer loop.
- Continue with a regular single crochet in the next stitch.
- For the next long single crochet, work into the left side of the loop two rows down, inside the triangle shape created by the pattern in previous rows.
- Alternate with a regular single crochet in the next stitch and long single crochet in the following stitch (always on the left side of the loop), across to the end of the row.
- Finish with a long single crochet by going around the last stitch and completing the long single crochet as usual. Chain 1 and turn.
Row 6:
- Single crochet in the first stitch.
- Alternate between front post single crochet (working on the left and right sides of the loops) and a regular single crochet across.
- End with a regular single crochet since you started with one. Chain 1 and turn.
Repeat Pattern:
- Repeat from Row 3 to Row 6 for the desired length or width of your project.
