Knit One Skein Beanie / Scarf
Beanie Pattern:
Long Tail Cast On: Start with a long tail cast on. Line up the last white and first black needle with the yarn feeder. Use the red divider marked with a permanent marker as a guide to know when it's coming around.
Cast On: Begin knitting around, going in front and behind each needle until you've cast on the whole row.
Stitch Rows:
- General Rule: Knit around 140 rows for an adult-sized beanie. (Adjust accordingly if you prefer a different brim width.)
Set your counter to zero after the cast on so you can track your progress.
Tension:
- Adjust tension as necessary. A medium tension is recommended as too loose will not catch the yarn properly.
- Use your fingers to control tension as you knit around.
Knitting the Body: Continue knitting until you've completed the desired number of rows (140 for a wide brim as suggested).
Finishing:
- Once you reach the desired row count, complete the row where the black divider is in front of your yarn feeder.
- Cut the yarn, leaving about a foot for finishing work.
- Proceed with a long tail cast off.
Closing the Top:
- Ensure the finished beanie is not twisted and stretch gently.
- Close each end by threading your needle and going around the top row of stitches twice to secure.
Scarf Pattern:
- Start with Waste Yarn: Begin your scarf with several rows (around 7) of waste yarn before starting with your main yarn.
- Attach Main Yarn: After the waste yarn, attach your main Latte Cakes yarn and set your counter to zero.
- Knit the Scarf: Knit the scarf, maintaining medium tension, until you reach the end of your yarn, leaving about 9 to 12 inches to sew up the end.
Closing the Scarf Ends:
- With the last bit of yarn, knit a few rows of waste yarn for easier finishing.
- Remove the knitting from the machine and gently stretch it.
- Seamlessly join the ends of the scarf by matching the loops of each layer and sewing them together.
Finishing Touches: Weave in the ends to have a clean finish on both the beanie and the scarf.
Additional Notes:
- The finished beanie is reversible without a pom-pom.
- Depending on tension and skein variability, expect about 350 to 390 rows from one scheme of Latte Cakes for an Addi King knitting machine.
