Crochet Herringbone Wallet
Materials Needed:
- Leftover yarn (⅓ of a skein is sufficient)
- 3 mm crochet hook
Pattern:
Chain Foundation:
- Create a chain of 20 stitches. This will be the width of your card holder.
Row 1 (Front Side):
- Unravel the chain slightly to find the first stitch and insert the hook into the link.
- Start with the herringbone or parquet pattern:
- Pull up a loop through the first chain, two loops on hook, knit together.
- Insert the hook into the first stitch made, pick up the working thread in the next chain stitch, pull up a loop.
- Continue the herringbone pattern until the end of the row.
Count the Diagonals:
- Count the diagonals of the "Christmas trees" to ensure you have 20 diagonals, corresponding to the 20 chains you started with.
Row 2 (Purl Side):
- Insert the hook from the inside out on the face under both arms of the first loop, pick up the working thread.
- Pull through three loops on the hook, knit together.
- Continue with purl "Christmas trees" to the end of the row.
Row 3 (Front Side):
- Alternate the row with front "Christmas trees" as in Row 1.
Repeat:
- Continue alternating the pattern until you have reached 12 rows in height.
Perimeter Edging:
- Start the edging by inserting the hook into the pigtail in the hem and catch the jumper, picking up the working thread.
- Crochet one single crochet into each stitch to the corner.
- For corners, create two single crochets in the same stitch to maintain the shape.
- Continue edging around the perimeter, ensuring even stitch counts on corresponding sides.
- Cut the thread, weave in the ends, and join the edged braid seamlessly.
Assembly:
- For the complete card holder, you will need to crochet two identical pieces and a third piece with 30 rows of "Christmas trees" instead of 12.
- Fold the pieces with the right sides facing outward and start sewing them together along the marked loops with slip stitches.
- Sew two parts together along the long side and one short side.
- Attach a button or magnetic clasp for closure.
- Weave in all remaining tails and trim any excess yarn.
