Materials Needed

  • Yarn (color of choice)
  • Knitting needles
  • Stitch markers
  • Yarn needle

Abbreviations

  • CO - Cast On
  • P - Purl
  • K - Knit
  • K2tog - Knit two stitches together
  • sl - Slip a stitch
  • st(s) - Stitch(es)
  • rep - Repeat

Instructions

Stitch Number Selection

  • For a 6-month-old baby, CO 33 sts.
  • For a newborn baby, CO 31 sts.

Casting On & Initial Rows

  1. CO 35 sts using a single thread, ensuring they are loosely done.
  2. Purl all sts for the first row.
  3. Row 2: Begin increasing to reach 55 sts total. K2tog, sl1, K1, rep until 55 sts.
  4. Place a marker after every 15 sts.
  5. Row 3: Purl all sts.

Stitch Increases

  • Row 4: Increase sts as Row 2, but with distribution as follows – K2tog, sl1, K next 15 sts, K2tog, sl1, then K remaining 15 sts.
  • Row 5: Purl all sts.

Repeat steps 4 and 5 for four rows, using blue yarn.

Section Division

  • Row 9: Divide sts into three sections with 21 sts, 13 sts, and 21 sts.
  • Row 10: Purl all sts in the first 21-st section.

Section Work

  • Row 11: Within the first section, K1, P2tog, K1, rep thrice, then P remainder of section.
  • Row 12: Purl all sts in the first section.

Repeat steps 11 and 12 for the entire first section.

  • Row 13: Purl all sts in the second (13 sts) section.
  • Row 14: Knit all sts in the second section.

Than Repeat steps 14 and 15 for the entire second section.

  • Row 16: Purl all sts in the third section.

Repeat steps 17 and 18 for the entire third section.

Final Rows & Casting Off

  • Row 19: Purl all sts across all sections.
  • Row 20: K1, P2tog, rep until the end of the row.
  • Row 21: Purl all sts.

Repeat steps 20 and 21 for a total of eight rows.

  • Row 29: Cast off (CO) all sts.

Weave in any loose ends.

Finishing Touches

  • Attach the yarn to the top of the shoe and begin sewing the sole.
  • Sew around the sole, ensuring color matching.
  • For laces, attach a piece of yarn to the top of the shoe and chain stitch until the lace is long enough.
  • Repeat for a second lace.
  • Thread laces through the holes and tie.
