May 9, 2024 · Leave a Comment

This crochet pattern is for a top tailored to a size small, with instructions on adjustments for different sizes. The construction involves increasing stitches to accommodate the bust size and creating a snug fit around the rib cage. Dual identical pieces are crafted and later joined to form the top making it an innovative crochet top pattern with the most amazing appearance.

Materials Needed:

  • 100% cotton yarn, weight 4
  • 4.5 mm crochet hook

Starting the Top:

  1. Foundation Row: Start with a chain of 12.
  2. Row 1: Chain 3, then make a double V-stitch in the third chain from the hook (2 double crochets, chain 2, 2 double crochets in the same chain). Double crochet in the next third chain. Repeat the double V-stitch in the subsequent third chain. End with a regular double crochet in the last chain.
  3. Row 2: Chain 3, flip your work. Create a double V-stitch in the first chain space, followed by a front post double crochet over the middle double crochet of the previous row. Repeat a double V-stitch in the next chain space and end with a double crochet in the third chain from the bottom.

Increasing Rows for the Bust Area:

  1. Row 7 onwards: Begin with a chain 3 and flip. Make a double V-stitch at the start, then perform increases at the post stitches by adding additional stitches (as described, starting with a single increase and moving to double, triple, etc., in subsequent rows).
  2. Keep repeating the pattern (two rows of each increase level: one increase, one increase, two two, three three, and so on) until a quarter of your bust measurement is reached, making sure to end on an increase row.

Constructing the Second Side:

  • Repeat the same process as the first side of the top to create an identical piece. Be mindful of mirroring the increases as needed.

Joining the Pieces:

  1. Joining: After finishing both pieces, fold them right sides out, and use the working yarn to slip stitch the sides together, forming armholes.
  2. Continue working in the round, making sure to apply the same increase pattern around the entire piece, connecting the front and back at the top of the shoulder chains, thus forming the second armhole.

Decreasing for Ribcage Fit:

  1. Once the joining is complete, start decreasing by reversing the increase pattern (if you increased up to "four", start with decrease "three") to ensure a snug fit around the ribcage.
  2. Continue with decrease rows until achieving the desired length, repeating the last decrease row as necessary to complete the top.

Finishing Touches:

  • Secure and weave in all loose ends using a smaller hook for ease.

Notes:

  • This pattern is highly customizable; adjust the increase/decrease rows according to your bust size and desired length.
  • The described pattern is designed to achieve a snug fit top with decorative embossed stitches for texture.

This pattern provides a basic structure for crafting a crochet top, allowing personal modifications for fit and style. Remember to measure frequently to ensure the right fit for your size.
