The Knit Phone Case is a wonderful handmade accessory that's as charming as it is functional. Its snug fit keeps your phone cozy and protected, while the ribbed top ensures the phone stays securely inside. The texture added by the knitting gives it a personal touch that's far warmer and more inviting than industrial cases.
Easy Knit Phone Case Pattern
It's a simple joy to see how yarn and a pair of needles can result in such a pretty and practical creation. This case is not just a holder for your phone; it's a testament to the love and care put into every stitch. Great job on crafting something so delightful and useful!
Materials Needed:
- A small ball of medium weight yarn (DK weight recommended)
- A pair of 3.5 millimeter circular needles
- A tapestry needle
- A tailor's tape for measuring your phone
Techniques Used:
- Judy's Magic Cast On
- Magic Loop to knit in the round
- Knit and Purl stitches (Stockinette)
- Rib Stitch
- Bind Off
- Weaving in ends
Instructions:
Measuring & Casting On:
Measure the circumference of your phone using a tailor's tape.
Cast on stitches according to the measurement. (2 stitches per centimeter, resulting in 32 stitches for the provided example)
- Adjust the number of stitches according to your yarn weight.
- It's recommended to cast on a number of stitches multiple of 4.
Setting Up:
- Use Judy's Magic Cast On to cast on 16 stitches on each needle.
- Arrange the yarn around your fingers, ensuring the yarn tail is around your index finger and the working yarn around your thumb.
- Carefully alternate the yarn from the thumb and index finger to create stitches on both the upper and lower needles until you have 16 stitches on each.
- Count to verify you have the correct number of stitches on each needle.
- Turn the needles counterclockwise to position the purl bumps on the inside of the work and secure the last stitch by twisting the yarn tail around the working yarn.
Knitting in the Round:
- Use the magic loop technique to start knitting the first row through the back loop, as the stitches are mounted with their leading leg on the back.
- Continue knitting in the round, pulling the cable through and turning the work clockwise.
- Repeat the steps of knitting in the round until the case's body is about three centimeters from the phone's upper edge.
Creating the Rib Section:
Start the ribbed section by alternating between knit and purl stitches for elasticity at the opening of the case.
Continue in a K1, P1 rib pattern until the ribbed section matches the phone's height.
Binding Off:
- Knit and purl according to the established rib pattern, passing the second stitch over the first after each stitch to bind off.
- Continue loosely binding off, alternating knit and purl stitches until you reach the end, to maintain elasticity.
- After binding off, cut the working yarn leaving a long tail. Thread the tail through the last stitch to secure it.
- Use a tapestry needle to close any gaps at the start and end of the bind-off edge.
- Weave in all ends to secure the work.
Finishing:
- Trim excess yarn once all ends are secured.
- Insert your phone into the case to ensure proper fit.
And your knit phone case is now complete! Enjoy your handmade creation.
