Crochet Harry Potter & Golden Snitch Bookmark
Materials Needed:
- Yellow and white yarn
- Yarn in colors representing the four Hogwarts houses for the string (optional)
- Yarn that is 60% cotton and 40% acrylic (recommended)
- 3mm crochet hook
- Scissors
- Darning needle
- Stuffing
Golden Snitch Body:
- Start with a magic circle.
Round 1:
- Make 5 single crochet (sc) into the magic circle.
Round 2:
- Increase in every stitch (inc) to double the number of stitches to 10 sc.
In Rounds 3 & 4:
- Do 1 single crochet in each stitch around (10 sc per round for a total of 20 sc).
Round 5:
- Perform four invisible decreases (dec), reducing the stitch count to 6.
- Close the round with a slip stitch (sl st) and then cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing. Add stuffing and close up the hole using the yarn tail.
Golden Snitch Wings (Make 2):
- Begin with a slip knot and chain 8 (ch 8).
Wing Pattern:
- Skip first chain from the hook, then in the second chain:
- Slip stitch in next two chains (sl st)
- Double crochet in next two chains (dc)
- Chain 1 (ch 1), slip stitch in the same chain to form the tip
- Double crochet in the next two chains (dc)
- Slip stitch in the last chain (sl st)
- For the second wing, repeat the pattern in reverse.
Secure and sew on the wings to the snitch body between rounds 2 and 3 for the top of the wing, and between rounds 3 and 4 for the bottom part of the wing.
Bookmark String (Example with Gryffindor color):
- Start with a magic circle and make 10 single crochets into it.
- Close with a slip stitch to the first stitch.
- Chain a desired length for the bookmark; the example uses a chain of 65 stitches.
- Cut the yarn, leaving a tail for sewing, and pull through the last loop.
- Hide any short yarn ends by weaving them in with a darning needle.
Sew the chain to the magic circle on the snitch, creating a secure connection.
