Materials Needed:

  • 4.5 mm crochet hook
  • Darning needle
  • Scissors
  • Cotton yarn in the following colors:
    • Taupe (for the base)
    • Stone wash (for the icing)
    • Red (for the cherry)

Base (in taupe):

Start with a slip knot and chain 11.

  1. Row 1: Single crochet in the second chain from the hook and in each chain across (10 stitches total).
  2. Row 2: Chain 1 (turn your work), single crochet in the same stitch, single crochet in the next 8 stitches, 2 single crochets in the last stitch (11 stitches total).
  3. Row 3: Chain 1, single crochet in the same stitch, single crochet in the next 9 stitches, 2 single crochets in the last stitch (12 stitches total).
  4. Continue increasing by 1 stitch at the end of each row until you have 16 stitches across (Row 7).

Icing (switch to stone wash yarn):

Row 8: Attach new yarn, chain 3 (counts as the first double crochet), work 3 double crochets together (dc3tog) in the same stitch (first cluster made), chain 1, skip 1 stitch, in the next stitch work 4 double crochets together (4dc together) to form the next cluster. Repeat - across until the end of the row, ending with a cluster. You should have 8 clusters.

  1. Row 9: Chain 1, turn, slip stitch into the first chain-1 space, chain 3, 3dc together in the same space. Repeat for each chain-1 space across. This row will have 7 clusters.
  2. Rows 10-11: Continue the pattern established in Row 9, decreasing the number of clusters by one each row. Row 10 will have 6 clusters, and Row 11 will have 5 clusters.
  3. Row 12: Repeat the pattern, ending with 4 clusters.

Switch to red yarn for the cherry on top:

Row 13: Attach red yarn with a slip stitch to the first chain-1 space, chain 3, 3 dc together in the same space. Work 4 dc together in each chain-1 space across (3 clusters in total).

  1. Row 14: Chain 1, turn, slip stitch into the first chain-1 space, chain 3, 3 dc together in the same space. Work 4 dc together in the next chain-1 space. This row will have 2 clusters.
  2. Row 15: Chain 1, turn, slip stitch into the first chain-1 space, chain 3, work 3 dc together in the same space. Finish off and weave in all ends.

Finishing: Weave in all ends neatly.
