  • Yarn needle

  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • inc = increase (2 sc in the same st)
  • dec = invisible decrease
  • BLO = back loop only
  • HDC = half double crochet
  • FLO = front loop only
  • st(s) = stitch(es)
  • magic ring = adjustable ring

Pattern Notes:

  • Worked in continuous rounds unless stated otherwise.
  • Use a stitch marker to mark the beginning of each round.
  • Adjust hook size and yarn to change the size of the whale.
  • You can choose to work stitches under both loops or use the yarn-under technique for tighter stitches.

Body:

Round 1: Start with a magic ring of 8 sc. Alternatively, ch 2 and work 8 sc into the second ch from the hook.

For Round 3: sc in the first st, place marker, sc in the next 6 sts, inc, sc in the next 7 sts, inc. (18 sts)

Round 4: sc in each st around. (18 sts)

Round 5: (Fins and tail) sc in the first 3 sts, ch 3, sl st into the second ch from the hook, sc in the next ch, sl st into the base, sc in the next 10 sts, ch 3, sl st into the second ch from the hook, sc in the next ch, sl st into the base, sc in the next 4 sts, ch 4, HDC in the second ch from the hook, sc in the next ch, sl st into the last ch, sl st into the base, repeat for the second half of the tail, sc in the last st.

2 Save

For Round 6: (Color Change to White)

Join white yarn with sl st to the first st of the previous round, work into BLO of each st around. If needed, fasten off the blue yarn by tying knots with the white yarn and hiding them inside the plush.

Round 7: sc in the first st, dec the next 2 sts, sc in the next st. (12 sts)
