Pattern Instructions

Making the Foundation Chain:

  • Start with a slip knot.
  • Pull the yarn through to form a loop, and place it on your hook.
  • Chain 26 or any even number of chains that fit the size of your laptop.
  • To create a chain, yarn over and pull through the loop on the hook.
  • Make sure the number of chains is even because you will be using the moss stitch.

First Round:

  • Chain 1 (turning chain).
  • Insert your hook into the second chain from the hook and make a single crochet (SC).
  • Use a stitch marker to mark the first stitch.
  • Work one SC into each chain across the foundation chain.

Working in Rounds:

  • In the last stitch of the chain, make an additional SC.
  • Do not turn the project; you will be working in rounds.
  • Continue to work along the opposite side of the foundation chain by making one SC in each stitch across.

Completing the Round:

  • In the last stitch of the round, place two more SCs.
  • Join to the marked stitch with a slip stitch.
  • In total, you should have 28 stitches now.

Second Round (Moss Stitch begins):

  • Chain 2. This will count as the first stitch.
  • Skip one stitch and work one SC into the next stitch.
  • Chain 1, skip one stitch, and SC into the next.
  • Repeat this sequence (chain 1, skip one, SC in next) around the round.

Subsequent Rounds:

  • At the end of the second round, chain 1 and work a SC into the chain-2 space from the beginning of the round.
  • Continue by chaining one and placing a SC into the chain-1 spaces from the previous round.
  • Repeat this for each subsequent round.

Checking the Fit:

  • After a few rounds, check the fit by placing your laptop inside the pouch.
  • If it's too tight, go back to the foundation chain and adjust accordingly.

Completing the Case:

  • Continue working rounds until the case covers the laptop.
  • After approximately 53 rounds, the case should cover the laptop entirely.
  • Finish off by cutting the yarn, leaving a long tail for weaving.
  • Chain 1 and then make a slip stitch to seamlessly finish off the round.
  • Pull the yarn through, tighten, and weave in the end securely.
  • You can make a couple of knots to secure it before cutting off the excess tail.

Final Touches:

  • The pattern results in a snug-fitting, beginner-friendly handmade laptop case with a textured moss stitch pattern.
  • You can customize this pattern by using different yarn or stitches to achieve different outcomes.
