Pattern Instructions:

Starting The Crown:

  • Begin with a slip knot on your hook.
  • Chain 3 (counts as your first double crochet).

Round 2:

  • 2 double crochets in the next stitch, 1 double crochet in the next. Repeat around. You'll have 36 stitches.

After Round 3:

  • 2 double crochets in the next stitch, 1 double crochet in each of the next two stitches. Repeat around. You'll have 48 stitches.

Round 4:

  • Increase by adding one more stitch between increases. Continue this pattern until you have 6 rounds of increasing or more depending on the size needed.

Creating The Body:

Round after last increase:

  • Double crochet in each stitch around without increasing.
  • Measure the diameter of the circle. For the specific beanie in the tutorial, stop increasing at 17 cm in diameter which was after 6 rounds of increasing.

Ribbing Texture:

  • Start the ribbing by alternating front post and back post double crochet stitches around the beanie.

First Round of Ribbing:

  • Chain 2, Front Post Double Crochet in the next stitch, Back Post Double Crochet in the next. Repeat from to around.
  • Slip stitch to join the end of the round and chain 2 to start the next round.
  • Continue altering front post and back post double crochets for each round until the beanie reaches the desired length.
  • About 16 rounds were suggested for a snug fit that covers the ears effectively.

Finishing:

  • To finish the beanie, simply slip stitch to close the final round, cut the yarn, and weave in the ends neatly.

Additional Tips:

  • For a larger head, keep increasing the diameter by maintaining the pattern increase ratio before starting the ribbing.
  • You have the option to delay the ribbing part until later in the project, making a longer section of just double crochet stitches for a different style.
