Materials Needed:

  • Yarn of your choice (Category 4 yarn recommended)
  • Crochet hook (5mm recommended)
  • Darning needle

Pattern:

Magic Ring:

  • Wrap the end of your yarn around your index and middle finger to create a loop.
  • Hold the yarn in place with your thumb, wrap the longer end around your fingers in the opposite direction, crossing on top.
  • Insert your hook into the loop, grab the yarn, and pull through to create a smaller loop on your hook.
  • Chain one to secure the ring.

Round 1:

  • Make 6 single crochets into the magic ring.
  • Pull the loose end of the yarn to close the center of the ring.
  • Join the round by slip stitching into the first single crochet.

Round 2 (Increases):

  • Chain 1 to start the new round.
  • Make 2 single crochets (increase) into each stitch from the previous round, resulting in 12 stitches total.

After Round 3:

  • Chain 1 and start with a single crochet into the same stitch.
  • Follow with an increase in the next stitch.
  • Repeat the pattern of one single crochet, then an increase all the way around for a total of 18 stitches.

Round 4:

  • Chain 1 and do two single crochets, followed by an increase.
  • Repeat this pattern of two single crochets and an increase all the way around for a total of 24 stitches.

Round 5:

  • Chain 1 and do three single crochets, followed by an increase.
  • Continue around for a total of 30 stitches.

For Round 6:

  • Chain 1 and do four single crochets, followed by an increase.
  • Repeat around for a total of 36 stitches.

Round 7 to Round 16 (or desired bag length):

  • Chain 1 and do single crochets in each stitch around.
  • Slip stitch to the first stitch and chain 1 to begin a new round.
  • Continue to work rounds of single crochets until you achieve the desired bag length.

Drawstring Holes Round:

  • Begin with a single crochet, chain 1, skip a stitch, then single crochet in the next stitch.

Repeat the pattern:

  • chain 1, skip a stitch, single crochet in the next stitch, around the bag.
  • Join with a slip stitch to the first stitch.

Next Round (Post-Drawstring Holes):

  • Single crochet in each stitch and in each chain space from the previous round.
  • Join with a slip stitch to the first stitch.

Final Decorative Round (Optional):

  • Repeat the pattern of one single crochet, two double crochets, and then another single crochet to create a bump.
  • Work this pattern around and join with a slip stitch into the bottom stitch.

Finishing:

  • Fasten off and weave in all ends with a darning needle.

Making the Drawstring:

  • Create a long chain with your hook to desired length.
  • Cut the yarn and fasten off.
  • Weave the chain through the drawstring holes using a darning needle.
  • Even out the drawstring ends and trim to neatness.
