Constructing Armholes and Seams:

  • Determine the width of your armholes by fitting the garment over your shoulder and marking where you want the seams to start.
  • Seam up from the bottom of the panels to the stitch markers to create armholes.
  • Make sure the armholes are symmetrical on both sides of the garment.
  • Sew the sides of the panels together.

Adding a Hood (Optional):

  • Use a 48-needle machine for the hood (46 needles also work).
  • Knit two identical rectangles (110 rows each with waste yarn beginnings and ends).
  • Close ends with a flat seam.
  • Mattress stitch the two pieces together down the middle.
  • Fold the joined piece in half and stitch the top to create the hood shape.
  • Attach the hood to the main body of the vest at the neckline.

Finishing Touches:

  • Add fringe around the bottom edge (estimated at 4 inches after folding).
  • Optionally, attach buttons and button loops for closure.
  • You can place buttons and create loops from a chain of 10 stitches or appropriate size for the buttons.
