Materials:
- Loops and Threads Flex yarn, color Silver Lining (355g per ball)
- For the sweater without the hood: 5 balls of yarn
- For the sweater with the hood: 6 balls of yarn
- Knitting machine ADI 22 (or other compatible machine with 22 needles)
Sweater/Vest Body:
- Set up your ADI 22 knitting machine.
- Begin with waste yarn in a different color for visibility (7-8 rows).
- Switch to the working yarn (Flex yarn in Silver Lining).
- Knit 210 rows for a standard length (adjust rows according to your desired length).
- After knitting the required rows, cut the working yarn and end with more waste yarn (at least 7-8 rows).
Closing the Ends:
- Close the ends of the knitting using a flat seam technique.
- Remove waste yarn carefully.
Assembling Panels:
- Depending on your body size, knit multiple panels.
- Shelly mentioned using 10 panels, joining five for each side of the garment.
- Use a braided join technique to connect panels side by side to create the width of the vest.
Constructing Armholes and Seams:
- Determine the width of your armholes by fitting the garment over your shoulder and marking where you want the seams to start.
- Seam up from the bottom of the panels to the stitch markers to create armholes.
- Make sure the armholes are symmetrical on both sides of the garment.
- Sew the sides of the panels together.
Adding a Hood (Optional):
- Use a 48-needle machine for the hood (46 needles also work).
- Knit two identical rectangles (110 rows each with waste yarn beginnings and ends).
- Close ends with a flat seam.
- Mattress stitch the two pieces together down the middle.
- Fold the joined piece in half and stitch the top to create the hood shape.
- Attach the hood to the main body of the vest at the neckline.
Finishing Touches:
- Add fringe around the bottom edge (estimated at 4 inches after folding).
- Optionally, attach buttons and button loops for closure.
- You can place buttons and create loops from a chain of 10 stitches or appropriate size for the buttons.
