Knit Maxi Skirt Pattern
Materials Needed:
- Two skeins of Big Twist yarn (or similar yarn).
- Red yarn (or another contrasting color) for scrap yarn to distinguish live stitches.
- A circular knitting machine (referred to as "Central machine").
- A crochet needle.
Casting On:
- Begin by casting on with your project yarn and your scrap yarn onto the circular knitting machine.
Use the contrasting scrap yarn to easily identify live stitches later.
Knit the Skirt Body:
- Knit about 35 rows with the project yarn to start the body of the skirt.
Creating the Brim:
- After knitting the initial rows, it's time to create the brim of the skirt.
- Using a crochet needle, pick up each live loop from the brim and cast it back onto the needles of the circular knitting machine.
- Turn the handle and loop the live yarn over the needles, ensuring the yarn feeder continues under each needle to seal the loops and create the brim.
For a detailed view, the creator recommends watching their slow-motion video on creating a brim.
Remove Scrap Yarn:
- Once the brim is completed, you can remove the scrap yarn and continue knitting the panel of your skirt.
Continue Knitting the Skirt Panel:
Keep knitting the panel until you've reached the desired length for your skirt.
Casting Off:
- Use the scrap yarn again to cast off.
- Knit 10 rows around the circular machine with the scrap yarn.
- Once finished, go around the machine twice without feeding new yarn in to start the unraveling process.
Creating Panels and Seaming:
- After removing your knitting from the machine, you will have two panels.
- Use the double stitch method to seam the ends of each panel together. This involves:
- Pulling a loop through both edges and then pulling another loop through the two loops on your hook.
- Continue this all the way down both sides of the project.
Finishing:
- Remove any remaining scrap yarn carefully, preserving it for future use.
- You can ball up the yarn while removing it to prevent tangling.
Fusing the Panels Together:
- With the double crochet method, fuse the two knitted panels you have made.
- Ensure there's enough flexibility for the skirt by using the double stitch technique.
Final Touches:
- Do any final adjustments to the skirt, such as determining what to do with the skirt's bottom or any additional decorations or features you'd like to add.
