Easy To Make Knit Crop Top Tutorial For Beginners

Knitting a crop top can be as fun as a sunny picnic in the park! Picture this: you, a pair of needles, some delightful yarn, and a super cool tutorial that's as breezy as it gets. We're talking about whipping up your very own knit crop top without breaking a sweat.

Materials:

  • Iron worsted size 4 yarn (~250 meters)
  • Size 9 mm knitting needles (straight or circular as preferred)
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors

Instructions:

Save

Cast On:

  • Make a slip knot.
  • Cast on stitches according to the size you're making:
  • Extra Small: Cast on 41 stitches
  • Small: Cast on 47 stitches
  • Medium: Cast on 51 stitches
  • Large: Cast on 57 stitches
  • Extra Large: Cast on 61 stitches

Begin Pattern:
Save

Row 1:

  • Knit 1 stitch, purl 1 stitch, repeat across the row, ending with a knit stitch.

Continuing Rows:

  • Continue the knit 1, purl 1 pattern until you have completed 34 rows in total, or adjust the number of rows for the desired length from the armpit down.

Create Armholes:

Creating the First Armhole:

  • At the beginning of the next row, bind off the following number of stitches according to your size to create the first armhole:
  • Extra Small: Bind off 9 stitches
  • Small: Bind off 11 stitches
  • Medium: Bind off 12 stitches
  • Large: Bind off 14 stitches
  • Extra Large: Bind off 15 stitches
  • Continue with knit 1, purl 1 pattern for the rest of the row.
    Save

Creating the Second Armhole:

  • Bind off the same number of stitches at the beginning of the following row to create the second armhole.
  • Continue with the knit 1, purl 1 pattern to the end of the row.

Continue Body:

  • Continue the seed stitch pattern (knit 1, purl 1) until the following total row count is met for your size:
  • Extra Small: 51 rows
  • Small: 55 rows
  • Medium: 59 rows
  • Large: 63 rows
  • Extra Large: 67 rows
  • Adjust the first stitch of the row if necessary to maintain the seed stitch texture.

Straps:
Save

First Strap:

  • Purl the first 2 stitches of the next row.
  • Bind off until you have the last 2 stitches, keeping those 2 stitches unworked as one strap.
  • Work back and forth on these 2 stitches (knit on the right side and purl on the wrong side) for 16 rows or until the strap reaches the desired length.
  • Bind off the strap.

Second Strap:

  • Reattach the yarn to the last 2 stitches on the other side.
  • Repeat the same steps as the first strap to create the second strap.

Back Panel:

  • Make a back panel identical to the front, but without straps:
  • Use the same instructions and size-specific cast on and row numbers.
  • After completing the required length, bind off all stitches.

Assembly:

  • Place the front and back panels together, right sides facing out.
  • Hand sew from the bottom of the armholes on both sides to join the front and back panels.
  • Attach the straps to the back panel at the corresponding corners.

Finishing:

  • Weave in all the ends for a clean finish.
