Imagine making a cute crochet ghost, perfect for adding a touch of whimsy to your decor or gifting to someone who loves all things spooky and adorable. With just some white yarn, a crochet hook, and a sprinkle of creativity, you can whip up this little ghost.
Crochet Ghost
Materials:
- Super bulky size 6 yarn (white)
- 5.0 mm crochet hook (she sizes down from the recommended 8 mm hook)
- 8 mm safety eyes (she opts to use glue rather than the backings)
- Yarn needle
- Stitch marker
- Black cotton thread (for the mouth)
- Scissors
- Polyester fiberfill (for stuffing)
- Fabric glue (optional, for securing the safety eyes)
Pattern:
Base of the Ghost:
- Make a slip knot, chain two.
- Single crochet eight times into the second chain from the hook.
- Place a stitch marker on the last stitch.
- Increase in every stitch to double the number of stitches (16 stitches total).
- In the next round, single crochet and increase in each stitch all the way around (24 stitches total).
- Snip the yarn, leaving a tail, and pull out the loop so that it does not unravel. Set this piece aside.
Body of the Ghost:
- Repeat the process for starting the base: make a slip knot, chain two, and single crochet eight times into the second chain from the hook.
- Increase in every stitch (16 stitches total).
- Next round: single crochet and then increase all the way around (24 stitches total).
- Single crochet each stitch for the next five rounds without increasing (still 24 stitches per round).
- Add arms using bobble stitches: single crochet eight stitches, then create a bobble stitch (by pulling up a loop and yarn over, pulling through two, three times in the same stitch and then pulling through all loops on the hook), single crochet in the next eight stitches, and add another bobble.
- Single crochet another six stitches to complete the round (24 stitches total, including the bobbles).
- Continue with two more rounds of single crochet (24 stitches each).
Seaming the Body and the Base:
- Line up the body and the base, right sides facing up, and ensuring the yarn tails are aligned with the starting stitches.
- Start crocheting together with a slip stitch, then follow a pattern of a slip stitch, single crochet, single crochet, slip stitch.
- Repeat this pattern six times around.
- Before closing up entirely, stuff the ghost body with polyester filling, making sure not to overstuff the base which should remain flat.
Adding Details:
- Next, embroider the mouth using black cotton thread between the appropriate rounds (described in the video as between rounds 5 and 6).
- Attach the safety eyes or glue them on (without backing).
