Start with a magic circle.

  1. Make 6 single crochets into the magic circle.
  2. Pull the tail to tighten the circle and place a stitch marker at the end of the round.
  3. Row 2: Increase in each stitch around for a total of 12 stitches.
  4. Row 3: 1 single crochet, 1 increase Repeat 6 times (18 stitches).
  5. Row 4 (Final for the bottom piece): 2 single crochets, 1 increase Repeat 6 times (24 stitches).
  6. Slip stitch into the next stitch and cut the yarn, leaving about an inch of tail.

Top Piece:

Repeat the same process as the bottom piece, but after Row 4, do not cut the yarn. This will be for the legs and claws.

Making the Legs and Claws:

For the top piece, do one more row of single crochet (24 stitches) to create a slight dome.

  1. Flip the bottom piece upside down and place the top piece on it, securing the tail in between.
  2. Go through both pieces and start single crocheting them together.
  3. After two single crochets, create the first leg by chaining 5, then single crochet in the second chain from the hook and the next 3 chains.
  4. Single crochet into the combined pieces to secure the leg and repeat for four legs total.
  5. After the last leg, single crochet twice into the combined pieces.

Making the Claws:

  1. Chain 7, skip the first chain, and single crochet in the next two chains.
  2. Chain 3 (new chain), skip the first chain, and single crochet in the next 2 chains to form the pinchers of the claw.
  3. Single crochet 4 times back down the original chain to complete the claw.
  4. Single crochet 6 times into the combined pieces, making sure not to skip any stitches.

Finishing the Body:

1 Save

Mirror the pattern on the other side for symmetry.

  1. Install safety eyes between the claws and the legs, two rows up from the edge of the claw.
  2. Add stuffing to the crab's body.
  3. Single crochet all the way to the end, slip stitch, and leave a long enough tail for sewing.
  4. Use an invisible join to finish off neatly or simply weave in the ends.

Final Touches:

  • Secure all ends and add any additional stuffing as necessary.
  • Your crab is now ready for adventure or to be given away if desired.

Remember to use the stitch marker at the end of each row to keep track of your rounds, and make adjustments to the eye placement, stuffing, and finishing according to your preference. Enjoy your crochet tiny crab creation!
