Create a charming amigurumi owl with this easy-to-follow crochet pattern. Olive the Owl is about 2.5 inches tall when made with worsted weight yarn. Feel free to play with different colors to personalize your owl.

Materials:

  • Worsted weight yarn in your preferred colors
  • E (3.5 mm) crochet hook (an F or G hook will work but will produce a slightly larger owl)
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors
  • Stitch markers and pins for assembly
  • 15 mm safety eyes
  • Fabric glue (optional for attaching wings)
  • Stuffing

Abbreviations:

  • MC: Magic Circle
  • SC: Single Crochet
  • INC: Increase (2 SC in the same stitch)
  • DEC: Decrease (SC 2 together)
  • ST: Stitch
  • CH: Chain

Pattern:

3 Save

Eyes (Make 2):

  1. Start with MC, SC 6 inside the circle. Close circle but leave a small hole for the safety eyes.
  2. Round 2: INC in each ST around (12 SC).
  3. Round 3: (Work only in the first 5 STs) Slip Stitch, 3 SC in the next ST, repeat. Join with a seamless join, leave a long tail for assembly.

Body:

Start with MC, 4 SC into circle.

  • Round 2: [1 SC, INC in next ST] repeat (8 SC).
  • Round 3: [1 SC in the first ST, INC in the next ST] repeat (16 SC).
  • Round 4: [1 SC in the next 2 STs, INC in the next ST] repeat (24 SC).
  • Round 5: [1 SC in the next 3 STs, INC in the next ST] repeat (32 SC).
  • Round 6: [1 SC in the next 4 STs, INC in the next ST] repeat (40 SC).
  • Round 7 - 15: SC in each ST around (40 SC).
  • Round 16: [DEC, SC in the next 3 STs] repeat (32 SC).
  • Round 17: [DEC, SC in the next 2 STs] repeat (24 SC).
  • Round 18: [DEC, SC in the next 10 STs] repeat (22 SC).
  • Round 19: DEC, SC in the next 9 STs, repeat DEC, SC in the last 9 STs (20 SC). Fasten off, leaving a tail for closing.

Wings (Make 2):

1 Save

  • MC, SC 6 into the circle, chain 1 and turn.
  • Slip Stitch in the first ST, 3 SC in the next ST, repeat sequence till the end. Fasten off, leave a tail for attaching.

Assembly:

4 Save

  • Place safety eyes between rows 13 and 14, leaving 5 stitches between them.
  • Embroider the beak between rows 10 and 11, centered beneath the eyes.
  • Stuff the body, then use the tail to whip stitch the opening closed.
  • Attach the wings just below the eyes on either side of the body. You may use yarn to stitch them on or fabric glue.
