Crochet Grim Reaper
Materials Needed:
- Black yarn
- Gray yarn
- Purple yarn
- Crochet hook (size F)
- Tapestry needle
- Small round multicolor lights (like those used for pumpkins)
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Shish kebab stick
- Small felt pieces
- Measuring tape
Instructions:
Body:
- Start with a magic loop.
- Chain 1, then make 10 half double crochets into the loop.
- Tighten the loop and slip stitch to the first half double crochet to close the round.
- For the second round: Chain 1, make one half double crochet in the same stitch. In each stitch around, make two half double crochets. Repeat this around.
- Continue increasing in the same pattern if needed until the desired size of the body is achieved, remembering to slip stitch and chain 1 at the start of each new round.
Arms (Make 2):
- Start with a magic loop.
- Chain 1, place 6 half double crochets into the loop.
- Tighten the loop, slip stitch to close the round. Chain 1 to start the next round.
- For each stitch, make one half double crochet. Increase in subsequent rounds as per the body pattern until arm reaches desired length.
- Finish by slip stitching and cutting the yarn. Weave in ends.
Hood:
- Start with a magic loop.
- Chain 1, make 6 half double crochets into the loop.
- Follow similar steps as the body to increase the size of the hood, until it can fit over the body part. Finish each round with a slip stitch and a chain 1.
- Make sure the hood has enough rounds to cover the head part of the Grim Reaper and shape it to form a point or round top as desired.
Eyes:
- Prepare felt strips as described to dim the brightness of the small round lights.
- Wrap the felt around the lights, gluing the felt ends together while leaving the light partially exposed for desired bright or dim light effect.
- Fix these inside the hood so they peek out from underneath.
Scythe:
- Cut the shish kebab stick to desired length for the handle.
- Use gray yarn to crochet a small blade. Start with a slip knot then chain 4, turn and make single crochets down the chain.
- Decrease at one end to form the blade shape, by combining two stitches into one.
- Attach the blade to the stick using hot glue.
Assembly:
- Attach the arms using hot glue or sew them on the sides of the body.
- Fix the hood over the head of the body.
- Position the eyes to align them where you prefer inside the hood.
- Attach the scythe by applying hot glue or inserting into one of the hands.
