Crochet Bookmark Tutorial
Materials:
- 3 mm crochet hook
- Scissors
- Darning needle
- Measure tape
- Yarn (100% cotton yarn is recommended, such as Paintbox yarn)
Instructions:
Starting Chain:
- Make a slip knot and chain 8. (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8)
Row 1:
- Skip the first chain from the hook and work a single crochet in the second chain. Work a total of 3 single crochets (one in each of the next two chains). In the 4th chain, work 3 single crochets in the same chain. Finish with one single crochet in each of the last three chains.
Repeat Row:
- Chain 1 and turn your work.
- Skip the first stitch.
- Working in the back loops only, work a single crochet in the second stitch.
- Work a single crochet in each of the next two stitches (total of three single crochets).
- In the next stitch, which is your center stitch from the previous row’s 3 single crochets, work 3 single crochets in the back loop only.
- Work a single crochet in the back loop only of the next two stitches, then skip the last stitch. Note: You're always skipping the first and last stitch of each row.
- Chain 1, turn your work, and repeat this row for the length of the bookmark.
- Continue repeating the row until the bookmark is the desired length. A length of 14 cm is suggested in the description.
Finishing:
- Once you reach your desired length, cut the yarn after your last single crochet, chain 1, pull the yarn through, and pull tight. Sew in the ends with a darning needle, making sure to hide the yarn on the back side of the work.
Tassel & Chain:
- Make a slip knot, attach it to the center of the bottom of your bookmark, and crochet a chain of 16 (or more for a longer tassel). Cut the yarn, pull through, and pull tight.
- Create a tassel by wrapping yarn around your hand 12 times, threading the yarn through the tassel's top, and attaching it to the end of your 16-chain piece.
- Wrap yarn around the neck of the tassel to secure and cut the loops to form the tassel.
- Sew in any remaining ends to the back of the work.
Finish:
- Trim the tassel to even out the ends. Now your bookmark is complete!
