How To Crochet Beanie Hat

Materials:

  • Yarn: Alize Lanagold Classic (210 meters per 100 grams)
  • Smaller Hook: Recommended for this specific yarn
  • Larger Hook: Slightly larger than the smaller hook
  • Scissors
  • Yarn Needle

Crochet Winter Beanie Hat Pattern (1) Save

Abbreviations:

  • CH: Chain
  • SC: Single Crochet
  • SL ST: Slip Stitch
  • BLO: Back Loop Only
  • SPIKE SC: Spike Single Crochet
  • DEC: Decrease

Pattern:

Brim:

  1. Start with the smaller hook and make a slip knot.
    1 Save
  2. CH 10 (or more if you want a higher brim).
  3. Row 1: SC into the second chain from the hook and in each chain across. (9 SC)
  4. Row 2: CH 1, turn. SC under both loops in the first stitch, SC BLO in the next 7 stitches, SC under both loops in the last stitch.
  5. Repeat Row 2 until you have a total of 72 rows (or a number that fits the circumference of your head and is a multiple of 3).

2 Save

Joining the Brim:

  1. Fold the brim in half and join with SL ST through both loops at one end and the leftover front loop from the other end.
  2. Turn the work inside out to hide the seam.

Body:

  1. Switch to the larger hook.
  2. Round 1: CH 1, SC into each row end around the brim. (72 SC)
  3. SL ST to the first SC.

4 Save

Pattern Stitch (Alternating Rounds of SC and Spike Stitch):

  1. Round 2: CH 1, SC into the same stitch, SC into each stitch around. SL ST to the first SC.
  2. Round 3: CH 1, skip first stitch, *SPIKE SC into the stitch 2 rows below the next SC, SC into the next SC, repeat from * around. SL ST to the first SPIKE SC.
  3. Repeat Round 2 and Round 3 until the body of the hat measures about 20 cm from the brim.

3 Save

Crown:

  1. Round 1: CH 1, *SC into the first stitch, DEC next 2 stitches together, repeat from * around. SL ST to the first SC.
  2. Round 2: CH 1, DEC every 2 stitches together. SL ST to the first DEC.
  3. Repeat Round 2 until 6 stitches remain.

Finishing:

  1. CH 1, leave a long tail, cut the yarn.
  2. Using a yarn needle, weave the tail through the front loops of the last round, pull to close the hole, and secure.
  3. Conceal all ends and attach a pom-pom if desired.
