Creating the Bunny Ears

Save

Start Knot and Initial Chain

  • Make a starting knot: Loop the yarn and pull through to create a knot.
  • Chain 7: This forms the base of your ear.

First Row

Save

  • Single Crochet Stitch: Wrap yarn around hook, insert into the first chain, yarn over, pull through, yarn over, and pull through two loops on hook.
  • Repeat until you have 7 stitches across.

Complete 8 rows of 7 stitches each to form the base of the ear.

Increasing for Ear Shape

  • Chain 3 at the end of the 8th row to start increasing.
  • Turn your work and insert the hook into the first of the 3 chains you just made, then single crochet as before.
  • Continue with this pattern for 5 rows, each time chaining 3 at the end of the row and single crocheting along for the increase.

Save

Decreasing to Shape the Top of the Ear

Decrease over the next 7 rows to shape the ear's top:

  • At the beginning of each row, skip 3 stitches and start your single crochet stitches from the 4th stitch. This action will gradually narrow the ear.

Save

Finishing

  • Create a border if desired by single crocheting around the ear's edges.
  • Cut and secure the yarn once completed with the border.
  • Attach the ears to the balaclava: Sew the bottom of the ears to your balaclava, ensuring they are positioned symmetrically.
  • Hide yarn ends: Weave in the ends for a neat finish.

Save

Final Touches

  • Check for symmetry and adjust as necessary.
  • Embellish or modify based on personal preference, like adjusting size or adding more rows for larger ears.
