Crochet Baby Dolphin Pattern Save

Materials Needed:

  • Light blue (folded) yarn
  • 3mm crochet hook (use a smaller hook than recommended for the yarn to keep the stitches tight)
  • Stitch marker or paper clip
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle
  • Stuffing material
  • Black yarn (for the eyes)
  • Key ring (optional)

Pattern:

Magic Circle:

  • Create a magic circle and chain 1 (does not count as a stitch).

1 Save

Round 1:

  • Make 4 single crochets into the magic circle.
  • Pull the tail to close the circle completely.

Round 2 (Increase every alternate stitch):

  • Single crochet in the first stitch (might be tight).
  • Make 2 single crochets (increase) in the next stitch.
  • Repeat Single crochet 1, then increase in the last stitch.
  • You should have a total of 6 stitches.

2 Save

For Round 3:

  • Make 1 single crochet in each stitch around (total of 6 stitches).

Round 4 (Increase in each stitch):

  • Make 2 single crochets in each stitch around.
  • End with 12 stitches.

Round 5 (Increase every alternate stitch, as in Round 2):

  • Single crochet in the first stitch.
  • Increase in the next stitch.
  • Repeat sequence for a total of 18 stitches.

3 Save

In Round 6 to 10:

  • Make 1 single crochet in each stitch around (constant at 18 stitches).

Round 11 (Start to curve the body):

  • Increase in the first stitch.
  • Single crochet in the next 6 stitches.
  • Make an invisible decrease over the next 2 stitches.
  • Continue with 6 single crochets and end with an increase.
  • Stitch count remains at 18.

Round 12:

  • Make 1 single crochet in each stitch around.

Tail Creation:

  • Chain 7 and work in back loops starting from the second chain.
  • Single crochet in the next 3 chains.
  • Chain 4, skip the first chain and single crochet in the last 3 chains.
  • Continue to make single crochets in the round, making sure to place a single crochet in the first 3 stitches of the tail.
  • Skip making any stitches in the V-shaped part and continue with single crochets in the last 3 stitches of the tail.

After Round 13 to 14 (Decrease for shaping):

  • Decrease as directed, making sure to skip the chain one stitch of the tail.

4a Save

Round 15:

  • Alternate between 1 single crochet and invisible decreases.
  • End with 12 stitches.

Round 16 (Last round, further decrease):

  • Decrease into every stitch around.
  • End with 6 stitches.
  • Fill with stuffing and close the hole with the tail yarn.

5a Save

Finishing:

  • Weave the tail in and out through the front loops of the stitches and pull tightly to close the hole.
  • Embroider eyes with black yarn or attach safety eyes.
  • Make dorsal and pectoral fins as directed.
  • Attach a key ring if desired.
