Supplies Needed:
- Yarn
- 7.5 mm circular knitting needles
- Additional needles or stitch holders
Pattern Overview:
Starting Loop:
- Begin by making a starting loop and place it on your knitting needles.
Casting On:
- Cast on 44 stitches. Count the starting loop as 1 stitch, so you will have a total of 45 stitches.
Joining:
- Cast on another 45 stitches for a total of 90 stitches. This will create the front and back of the pants. Join your work to start knitting in the round.
First Row:
- Knit the first row. This yarn can be slippery, so knitting the first row can help with grip.
Ribbing:
- For the next six rows, work in a knit 1, purl 1 rib pattern.
Body of the Pants:
- After completing the ribbed band, continue with knit stitches only for the next 9 inches to create the main body of the pants.
Dividing Stitches:
- Ensure you still have 90 stitches. Then, find the midpoint (45th stitch) and transfer half of the stitches (45) onto another set of circular needles or a stitch holder. This will separate the legs.
Knitting the Leg:
- With one set of the stitches (45), continue knitting in the round to create the first leg. Knit to your desired length.
Casting On for Crotch Area:
- To create the crotch area, cast on 25 stitches (or adjust based on the total stitches/2 for your project size).
Continue Knitting:
- Keep knitting in the round until you reach the desired leg length, then cast off.
Second Leg:
- Move to the second set of 45 stitches. Similar to the first leg, weave in yarn to create 25 additional stitches for the crotch area using a hook (if needed, refer to the description in the text for creating the illusion of casting on without actual casting).
Finishing Up:
- Knit in the round as you did for the first leg. If you find any holes, particularly around the crotch area, weave in yarn to close them up.
Casting Off:
- Once both legs are at the desired length, cast off.
Final Touches:
- Make any necessary adjustments, such as securing loose yarn ends, to finish your pants.
