- Work 2 hdc in each stitch around (total 22 stitches).
- Slip stitch into the first hdc to close the round.
R- 3:
- Repeat the sequence: Chain 2 ch, work 2 hdc in the first stitch, and 1 hdc in the next stitch. Continue this pattern of increasing every other stitch throughout the round.
- Total stitches: 33 hdc.
Rounds 4–5:
- Continue the increasing pattern for two more rounds:
- Round 4: Every 2 stitches, increase by adding 2 hdc in one stitch.
- Round 5: Increase after every 3 stitches.
At the end of Round 5, your rose's base will have a total of 55 hdc.
Edge Finishing:
- Change to a darker yarn color for the edges. Secure the new yarn with a slip knot.
- Work the following pattern around the edges of your base:
- Slip Stitch, Chain 1, and skip a stitch.
- Continue around until the entire edge is completed and creates a petal-like texture.
- Secure the final stitch with a slip stitch, fasten off, and weave in the ends.
Sepal (Green Base Underneath the Rose):
- Begin with a magic ring.
- Chain 2 ch, followed by 11 hdc in the circle (total 12 hdc).
- Slip stitch into the first hdc to close the round.
Build Sepal Leaves:
- Chain 6 ch.
- Skip the first chain, then work the following stitches:
- Slip stitch in the 2nd chain from the hook.
- Single crochet [sc] in the next chain.
- Half double crochet [hdc] in the next chain.
- Double crochet [dc] in the next chain.
- Treble crochet [tr] in the last chain.
- Attach the created leaf by slip stitching into every 3rd stitch of the base round.
- Repeat to form a total of 4 leaves around the base.
Leaf Creation:
- Start with chain 9 ch.
- Skip the first chain, then work the following sequentially:
- Slip stitch → sc → hdc → dc → dc → hdc → sc → slip stitch.
- Rotate the work and repeat on the opposite side to form the second half of the leaf.
- Make at least 2 leaves.
Stem Wrapping:
- Take a 7.5-inch piece of wire and add glue to its surface.
- Wrap green yarn tightly around the wire to form the stem.
- Attach the leaves by wrapping them securely with additional yarn or attaching glue in place.
Assembling the Rose
- Roll the crocheted rose base tightly into the shape of a flower.
- Use pins to secure the shape temporarily while wrapping yarn around the middle tightly to hold it together.
- Once secured, add glue to the bottom of the rose and attach it to the sepal. Hold gently until the glue dries.
- Attach the stem to the sepal’s base using either glue or by wrapping yarn tightly around both parts.
- Adjust and shape the petals and leaves as desired for a finished look.
Special Features
- Beginner-friendly design that uses only basic stitches.
- Unique double-sided leaf pattern.
- Fully customizable with different yarn colors for special occasions.
- The stem can be made using crochet-friendly upcycled materials like electric wires.
Uses and Benefits
This crochet rose flower is perfect for gifting to loved ones on special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, or Valentine’s Day. It can also serve as home decor, wedding accents, bouquet alternatives, or simply a cheerful and eco-friendly crochet that lasts forever.
Bonus Tip
For a sturdier rose, add a wire or a pipe cleaner inside the stem and leaves. This will help the rose maintain its shape while making it easier to display in a vase or bouquet arrangement.
