Crochet Sunglasses Or Eyeglasses Case
Materials Needed:
- Chenille yarn (Premier Bloom Chenille or similar), or a super bulky (6) yarn of your choice.
- A 5.0 mm (H) crochet hook
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
Pattern:
Starting Chain:
- Create a slip knot.
- Chain 10.
First Row:
- In the chain next to the hook (not into the hook-chained one), put three single crochets (sc) in the first stitch.
- Single crochet in each chain across until the last stitch, you should have 8 sc total if you can count the stitches. If you end up with 7 or 9, it’s fine for this project.
- In the last chain stitch, put 2 more sc.
Building the Sides:
- Turn your work to crochet up the opposite side of your initial chain. Aim for 8 sc up this side, but again, if you're a little off, it's okay.
- At the end of the row, instead of joining, you're going to crochet in the round now.
Continue Crocheting in the Round:
- Begin crocheting in the round by doing sc in each stitch around. There's no need to join at the end of each round, just keep crocheting in a spiral. Ensure you have around 10 stitches per side as you go around, but precision is not crucial.
- Continue until the case is about 7 inches in length, or enough to fit your glasses with an extra inch to fold over for closure if desired.
Optional Spike Stitch Edging:
- For a decorative touch, you can add a spike stitch edging in a contrasting color:
- To start, attach the new yarn color with a slip stitch in a stitch on the edge.
Spike Stitch Row:
- Single crochet in the first stitch, then for the next stitch, insert your hook a row below to pull up a loop to the height of your current row, then complete the single crochet.
- Repeat across, alternating between regular single crochet stitches and spike stitches for a patterned edge.
Finishing:
- Once your eyeglass case is the desired length, slip stitch to the first stitch of your last round to join and finish off the work.
- Weave in all ends with your yarn needle.
Optional Closure:
- Consider adding a flap or a button closure for extra security. For a button closure, crochet a small loop to fit over your button and sew the button opposite the loop.
