Make A Cozy Home For Your Shades With Crochet Sunglasses Or Eyeglasses Case Tutorial Step By Step

Jan 11, 2025 · Leave a Comment

Whether you're a crochet newbie or a seasoned pro, whipping up a cozy case for your sunglasses or eyeglasses is a fun and practical project. By simply looping yarn with a hook, you can make a soft, protective home for your specs that's as stylish as it is functional. This quick and customizable craft is perfect for adding a personal touch to your accessories while keeping your glasses scratch-free.

Materials Needed:

  • Chenille yarn (Premier Bloom Chenille or similar), or a super bulky (6) yarn of your choice.
  • A 5.0 mm (H) crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

Starting Chain:

  • Create a slip knot.
  • Chain 10.

First Row:

  • In the chain next to the hook (not into the hook-chained one), put three single crochets (sc) in the first stitch.
  • Single crochet in each chain across until the last stitch, you should have 8 sc total if you can count the stitches. If you end up with 7 or 9, it’s fine for this project.
  • In the last chain stitch, put 2 more sc.

Building the Sides:

  • Turn your work to crochet up the opposite side of your initial chain. Aim for 8 sc up this side, but again, if you're a little off, it's okay.
  • At the end of the row, instead of joining, you're going to crochet in the round now.

Continue Crocheting in the Round:

  • Begin crocheting in the round by doing sc in each stitch around. There's no need to join at the end of each round, just keep crocheting in a spiral. Ensure you have around 10 stitches per side as you go around, but precision is not crucial.
  • Continue until the case is about 7 inches in length, or enough to fit your glasses with an extra inch to fold over for closure if desired.

Optional Spike Stitch Edging:

  • For a decorative touch, you can add a spike stitch edging in a contrasting color:
  • To start, attach the new yarn color with a slip stitch in a stitch on the edge.

Spike Stitch Row:

  • Single crochet in the first stitch, then for the next stitch, insert your hook a row below to pull up a loop to the height of your current row, then complete the single crochet.
  • Repeat across, alternating between regular single crochet stitches and spike stitches for a patterned edge.

Finishing:

  • Once your eyeglass case is the desired length, slip stitch to the first stitch of your last round to join and finish off the work.
  • Weave in all ends with your yarn needle.

Optional Closure:

  • Consider adding a flap or a button closure for extra security. For a button closure, crochet a small loop to fit over your button and sew the button opposite the loop.
