This snood is sure to become a cherished accessory for those cold days, or a thoughtful handmade gift for friends and family. Kudos to this lovely design for its simplicity and charm that any knitter, novice or experienced, can appreciate and enjoy making.

Materials Needed:

  • Super chunky weight yarn (examples include Woolen The Gangs Al Pacino Merino or Drops Andes for a similar, less soft option).
  • Circular knitting needles, 5.5mm (or size to obtain gauge).
  • Stitch markers.
  • Scissors.

Gauge:

Approximately 13 stitches x 17-18 rows = 10 cm in rib pattern. Adjust needle size as necessary to obtain correct gauge.

Instructions:

Setup:

  • Choose your yarn colors. This pattern is great for using up scrap yarn.
  • You'll be working in the round, so prepare your circular needles.

Cast On:

  1. Start with a long tail cast-on of 70 stitches, using your chosen starting color.
  2. Ensure that your stitches are not twisted on the needle before joining to work in the round.
  3. Place a stitch marker to mark the beginning of the round.

Pattern:

The entire snood is worked in a (K3, P2) rib pattern.

  1. Joining Yarn & Rounds: Knit the first stitch with both the tail and working yarn to join in the round. Continue in pattern with just the working yarn.
  2. Continue in Rib Pattern: K3, P2 repeat this pattern for each round.
  3. Color Changes: When changing colors, simply start knitting with the new color. You can tie the old and new yarns in a loose knot if preferred to avoid holes or loose stitches. Follow the rib pattern with each new color.
  4. Repeat: Continue working in the (K3, P2) pattern, changing colors as desired, until the snood reaches your preferred length.

Finishing:

  1. Bind Off: Cast off in pattern (knit the knit stitches and purl the purl stitches). Ensure a loose bind-off for stretch.
  2. Weave in Ends: Weave in all loose ends. For multi-colored work, mimic the path of the stitches you're weaving into for a neat finish.

2

Blocking (Optional):

  1. Soak the snood in cold water for 15 minutes.
  2. Remove, gently squeeze out excess water (do not wring), then roll in a towel to absorb moisture.
  3. Lay flat to dry on a towel or blocking mat, shaping it to size.

Enjoy your cozy, multi-colored snood! Perfect for adding a layer of warmth and style to any outfit.
