Materials:
- Knitting machine
- Yellow, orange, and white yarns
- Crochet hook or tool to handle stitches
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
Abbreviations:
- CO: Cast On
- BO: Bind Off
Instructions:
Step 1: Setup and Initial Knitting
- Locate your starting peg (marked white), and create an attaching CO row by weaving back and forth between the pegs.
- Return to your starting peg, center your yarn, set up your tension, and reset your counter.
Step 2: Knit the Yellow Base
- With yellow yarn, continue knitting until you have completed about 40 rows.
For Step 3: Creating the Brim
- Begin constructing the brim by identifying the first official row (the second row following your attaching row).
- Align the stitches from this row and gently place them over the hooks as you crank the machine. Use a nail or a crochet hook to make this easier.
- Continue placing stitches over the hooks around the entire circumference to create a hemmed brim. Ensure there are no gaps.
Step 4: Transitioning to Orange
- When you return to the starting peg, cut the yellow yarn and attach the orange yarn.
- Secure the end of the yellow yarn inside the center, align the orange yarn correctly, and start knitting slowly to ensure it catches properly. Knit for 15 rows in orange.
Step 5: Adding White Segment
- After the orange section, cut the orange yarn, placing the cut end over the left side of the peg.
- Line up the white yarn, knitting slowly at first to secure the yarn. Continue for 10 rows in white.
For Step 6: Closing the Hat
- Once complete, cut a long tail for sewing, and thread a needle onto this tail.
- Begin removing the hat from the machine starting at the starting peg. You can remove stitches individually or more at once as you feel confident.
- After completely removing the hat, crank the machine slightly to finish the final stitches and pull the tail snugly.
Step 7: Finishing Touches
Sew the top of the beanie closed using the tail. Weave in all ends securely and tuck them in to conceal.
Note:
- Be mindful of potential color crossover at the side of the starting peg; however, this will be positioned at the back of the beanie.
