Knit Baby Dress Knitting Pattern

Materials Needed:

  • 3 skeins of 50 gram DK weight yarn (2 in main color, 1 in contrast color)
  • US-6 (4mm) needles: one longer circular needle and one 16-inch circular needle
  • Stitch markers
  • Tapestry needle
  • Ruler
  • Optional: row counter
  • Scrap yarn
  • Gauge: 22 stitches and 30 rounds = 4 inches in stockinette stitch

Instructions:

Bottom Hem

1 Save

Cast On: Using the long tail method, cast on 53 stitches on your 16-inch circular needle.

Row 1 (Wrong Side): Purl all stitches.

Row 2 (Right Side): Slip the first stitch knitwise with yarn in back, knit across all stitches.

Repeat these two rows until the work measures 1 inch from the beginning, ending with a Right Side row.

Adding Holes for Bow

Next Right Side row: Slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 2, yarn over, knit two together through the back loop, knit to the last five stitches, knit two together normally, yarn over, knit the last 3 stitches.

Collar

  1. Continue in pattern until the piece measures 2 inches from the beginning, ending with a Right Side row.
  2. Folded Hem: Fold the collar along the cast-on edge and join by knitting together the stitches from the needle and the corresponding cast-on edge stitches.

Raglan Setup

  1. First Purl Row (Wrong Side): Purl 10, place marker, purl 7, place second marker, purl 19, place third marker, purl 7, place last marker, purl 10.
  2. Begin Raglan increases:
    • Increase Row (Right Side): Slip 1, knit to 1 stitch before marker, make one right, slip marker, make one left, repeat from * to * at each marker, knit to end.
    • Wrong Side: Purl all stitches, slipping markers as you come to them.
    • Repeat these two rows 11 more times (12 total steps).

Join in the Round

  1. Join for working in the round by knitting the first stitch of the next row together with the first cast-on stitch. Remove stitch markers during join.
  2. Place the 31 sleeve stitches on scrap yarn for each sleeve and cast on 4 new stitches at each underarm.

Body

3 Save

Knit in the round until the body measures 7 inches from underarm, stopping at the marker.

Increase 50 stitches evenly spaced in the next round.

Color Work

  1. Follow the provided color work chart using the contrast color and main color as specified.

Final Touches

  1. Knit three plain rounds in the main color.
  2. Bind off using an i-cord bind off method.

Sleeve

  1. Place the held 31 stitches of one sleeve onto the needle, pick up and knit 4 stitches from underarm.
  2. Work in the round for 1 inch.
  3. Repeat the i-cord bind off for the sleeve.

Repeat for the other sleeve.

I-Cord for Bow

  1. Cast on 2 stitches, slide them to the other end of the needle, and knit 2 stitches. Continue this process until the i-cord measures 17.5 inches, then bind off.

Finishing

  1. Weave in all ends.
  2. Thread i-cord through the holes at the back of the neck and tie a bow.

4 Save
