Pattern
Base of the Hat:
- Start with white yarn to make a magic circle.
Round 1:
- Into the magic circle, make 5 single crochets (sc). Close the circle.
Round 2:
- Perform increases in all 5 stitches from the previous round. Make 2 sc in each stitch to increase the stitch count to 10.
In Rounds 3-5:
Single crochet:
- In each stitch around, totaling 30 sc (10 sc for each round) without increasing.
Stuff:
- the base lightly before moving onto the next step.
Round 6:
- Execute 4 invisible decreases to reduce the stitch count from 10 to 6, essentially skipping 2 stitches of the round to shape the top.
Closing and Finishing the Hat:
- To finish off, perform a slip stitch in the next stitch, cut the yarn leaving a tail, and pull through.
- Add any final stuffing adjustments.
- Use the yarn tail to close the gap by weaving through the front loops of the remaining 6 stitches and pulling tight.
Ears (Make 2 with slight variations between the left and right):
- Start with a slip knot and chain 4 (for the left ear) or 5 (for the right ear).
- Turn, and starting from the second chain from the hook, work 3 sc along the back loops of the chains.
- For the left ear, chain 4, turn, and make 3 sc in the back loops. The right ear follows a similar pattern but starts with chaining 5.
- Fasten off and leave a long tail for attaching the ears to the hat.
Attaching the Ears:
- Sew the ears to the top of Miffy's head, using the yarn tails. Place them symmetrically on either side of the head.
Creating and Attaching the Face:
- Using black embroidery yarn, stitch Miffy’s face (eyes and cross-shaped nose) on the hat. Focus on making the eyes symmetrical and aligned with the nose.
Making the Bookmark String:
- Create another magic circle and crochet 10 sc inside it. This forms a small circle that will sit at the opposite end of the bookmark for functionality.
- Chain the yarn long enough to match the length of your book. Break yarn and fasten off.
Attaching the String to Miffy:
- Sew the string’s start (the small circle end) to the bottom part of Miffy. Ensure it's secure.
Adding the Bow:
- With the same colored yarn as the string, cut a length of yarn and tie a small bow. Glue the bow on the top of Miffy’s head or wherever you find aesthetically pleasing.
