Crochet Triangular Lace Shawl
Materials Needed:
- Yarn: Yarn Art Flowers Moonlight, or any 1000 m cake yarn.
- For a bigger shawl, more yarn may be required as described using two cakes of "It's a Wrap Rainbow" totaling 1140 m.
- Hook: 4 mm crochet hook
- Other: Scissors, wool needle, measuring tape, 3 stitch markers, a small book or card for making tassels
Instructions:
Tassels Making:
- Remove yarn's ball band and cut two strips of yarn, each piece the length of a ruler (about 30 cm or 12 inches).
- Use a small book or card to wrap yarn around it 40 times.
- Gently slide the yarn off, tie one of the cut strips tightly near the top to secure, and cut through the loops at the opposite end to create a tassel.
- Repeat the wrapping, tying, and cutting process to make a total of 3 tassels.
Shawl:
Starting:
- Decide whether to start from the inside or outside of the cake based on color preference.
- Make a slip knot to begin.
Row 1:
- Chain (ch) 4 (counts as the first double crochet (dc) and ch-1 space).
- In the first ch from the hook, work a V-stitch ([dc, ch 1, dc]), then ch 2 (acts as the spine), work another V-stitch in the same chain, ch 1.
- Finish with a dc in the same stitch.
Row 2:
- Ch 1, turn, dc in the first stitch.
- Ch 1, then work a V-stitch in the next ch-1 space from the previous row.
- In the spine (ch-2 space), work [V-stitch, ch 2, V-stitch], ch 1.
- In the next ch-1 space, work another V-stitch, ch 1, and end with a dc in the last stitch of the row.
Repeat Pattern:
- The pattern from Row 2 is essentially what you'll repeat for each subsequent row. Always start with a ch 1 and dc into the first stitch.
- Work a V-stitch in each ch-1 space leading up to the spine.
- In the spine, always work [V-stitch, ch 2, V-stitch].
- Continue V-stitches in each ch-1 space on the other side symmetrically, finishing the row with a ch 1 and a dc in the last stitch.
- Increase the number of rows until you've reached your desired size or until you run out of yarn, ensuring you've reserved enough yarn for the tassels if not made initially.
