Crochet Cardigan Pattern
Materials:
- Yarn
- Crochet hook (4mm, or suitable size for the yarn)
- Elastic band
- White yarn (for edging)
- Stuffing material or leftover yarn scraps for filling
- Scissors
Large Scrunchie Pattern:
Create a starter loop and chain (ch) 10.
Add two more loops to start the row.
Make a double crochet (dc) in the third loop from the hook (the loop on the hook doesn't count).
Continue double crocheting to the end of the row. You should have 10 dc in total for the first row.
Turn your work and make a single crochet (sc) in the first loop from the hook.
Make another sc in the first loop of the previous sc (this creates a flat edge and is also counted as the first stitch).
Yarn over (yo), insert the hook into the same stitch, and make a dc.
Make two dc into the next stitch, then two dc into each subsequent stitch until the end of the row. You should have 20 dc by the end of the second row.
The following rows will build up the pattern alternating between increases (two dc in one stitch) and regular dc:
Row 3: Alternate between one dc and two dc in the next stitch until you have 30 stitches.
Row 4: Alternate between two dc and an increase. You should have 38 stitches by the end of this row.
Rows 5 & 6: No increases; repeat 38 stitches, making one dc into each stitch.
Decreases will start from Row 7:
Alternate between two dc and a decrease (yo, insert the hook, draw up a loop, yo pull through two loops on the hook, insert the hook into the next stitch, yo, draw up a loop, yo pull through the first two loops, then pull through all three loops on the hook).
Continue this pattern (two dc followed by a decrease) until the end of the row. Finish with a decrease.
Joining the Petals:
- After completing five petals total, fold them in half.
- Join the two edges together with slip stitches.
- Wrap an elastic band in the center of the petals.
- Crochet the edges together, filling the petals with stuffing as you go.
- Use white yarn to make two sc in each row along the edges to join the petals, inserting the hook through both layers.
Final Edging:
- Between the petals, make long single crochet stitches directly into the center of the elastic band to secure the flower's shape.
- Optionally add a second layer of edging with ruffles: slip stitch into the first sc, chain 3, make 3 dc in the same stitch, make a sc in the next stitch, and repeat this pattern around the edge.
Finishing:
- Fasten off and weave in all the ends.
- Fluff up the petals to give the finished scrunchy a full, puffy flower appearance.
