Materials Needed:

  • Scissors
  • Pins
  • Yarn needle
  • 4 mm crochet hook
  • 10 mm safety eyes
  • Stitch marker
  • Chanille chunky yarn (Gray for the hippo's skin, Pink for the dress)
  • Black acrylic yarn (for facial details)
  • Toy filling

Pattern For Making Top Part Of Heart:

Start with a Magic Ring:

  • Single crochet 8 stitches into a magic ring.
  • Pull the loop to close the ring.
  • For the next round, do 2 single crochets in each stitch, increasing the total to 16 stitches.

Continue Increasing:

Round 3:

  • (1 single crochet, increase in next stitch) - repeat 8 times, total 24 stitches.

1 Save

Round 4:

  • (2 single crochets, increase in next stitch) - repeat this sequence for the round.

Work Evenly:

Rounds 5-6:

  • Work 32 single crochets evenly around.

Shape the Top Part:

  • Finish off the first piece by cutting the yarn after round 6.
  • For the second piece, do not cut the yarn after round 6 as it will be used to join both parts.

2 Save

Joining and Continuing the Body:

Join Two Parts:

  • Place the two tops together, stitch by stitch, using single crochets to join them, back to back.
  • Continue to crochet around the combined pieces.

Complete the Body:

  • Following rounds (7 onwards): Continue increasing or decreasing as per previous rounds to shape the heart.
