  • This is your foundation chain.

Row 1:

  • Perform a stacked single crochet in the first chain to count as a double crochet.
  • Make two more double crochets into the same chain.
  • (Yarn over, insert your hook into the stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through the first two loops on your hook, then yarn over and pull through the remaining two loops.)
  • Chain 2.
  • Do three more double crochets into the same stitch.
  • You will have created the first triangle shape.

All subsequent rows:

  • Start each row with a stacked single crochet (which counts as one double crochet).
  • (Insert your hook into the stitch, pull the yarn back (two loops on hook), yarn over and pull through both loops.)
  • In the first stitch, make another double crochet.
  • Perform one double crochet in each of the next stitches until you reach the chain-2 space.
  • In the chain-2 space, make two double crochets, chain 2, and then two more double crochets, all in the same space.
  • Continue with one double crochet in each of the next stitches until the end of the row, where you'll make two double crochets in the final stitch.
  • Turn your work.

Pattern Growth:

  • The pattern will grow incrementally with each row due to the increases at the start and end of the rows, and at the center chain-2 space.
  • With every row, your shawl will increase by six stitches (3 on each side), maintaining a symmetrical triangle shape.

Finishing the Shawl:

  • Finish your shawl after 22 rows or continue for a larger size. Ensure each side has an equal number of stitches for symmetry.

Add Fringe (optional):

  • Cut 200 pieces of yarn, 16 inches long.
  • Wrap yarn around a notebook and cut to get even pieces.
  • Group 3 strands per fringe, attaching them to every other stitch on the shawl's edge. Use a hook to pull the strands through and tie a knot.
