Meet the coolest chicken to ever grace the galaxy the Crochet Space Chicken Amigurumi! This isn't your ordinary barnyard bird; it's a yarn-crafted, helmet-wearing, adventure-loving little clucker that's ready to zoom through the stars.

Crochet Space Chicken Pattern Save

Materials Needed:

  • Yarn (in various colors for the helmet, body, visor, and wings)
  • Crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle
  • Stuffing material
  • Stitch markers (optional)

Helmet:

  • Create a magic circle with six single crochets (6 sc).

1 Save

Round 1:

  • Crochet six increases (2 sc in each stitch) (12 sts).

Round 2:

  • 1 sc, 1 increase; repeat six times (18 sts).

For Round 3:

  • 2 sc, 1 increase; repeat six times (24 sts).

Round 4:

  • 3 sc, 1 increase; repeat six times (30 sts).

2 Save

Round 5:

  • Crochet 1 sc in each stitch around (30 sc).
  • Create 1 sc, then a bubble stitch with 5 double crochets, followed by 14 sc, another bubble stitch with 5 double crochets, then 13 sc to the end of the round.
  • Crochet 1 sc in each stitch for two rounds (30 sc each round).
  • 3 sc, 1 decrease; repeat six times (24 sts, only in the front loops).
  • Cut the yarn and weave in the end with an invisible join.

3 Save

Body:

  • Attach orange yarn to the first back loop on the 11th round of the helmet.
  • Chain 11, then crochet 10 sc in the chains, skipping the first chain.
  • Crochet 24 sc in the back loops around the helmet head.
  • Crochet 9 sc in the back loops of the chains, and finish with an increase (45 sts total).
  • 1 increase, 9 sc; repeat once, 20 sc, decrease; repeat once, 9 sc, 2 increases.
  • 1 sc, 1 increase, 9 sc; repeat once, 1 decrease, 18 sc; repeat once, 1 decrease, 9 sc, 1 sc, 1 increase; repeat twice (27 sts).
  • Crochet 47 sc for four rounds.
  • 7 sc, 6 sc, 1 decrease; repeat five times (42 sts).
  • 5 sc, 1 decrease; repeat six times (36 sts).
  • 4 sc, 1 decrease; repeat six times (30 sts).
  • 3 sc, 1 decrease; repeat six times (24 sts).
  • 1 sc, 1 decrease; repeat six times (18 sts).

4 Save

  • 1 decrease; repeat until you have 12 sts, then stuff the chicken.
  • Finish with 6 decreases, cut off yarn, and weave in the end.

Visor (Window of the Helmet):

  • With black yarn, chain 6.
  • Crochet an increase, 3 sc, 2 increases in the last chain, 3 sc in the back loops, and finish with an increase (14 sts).
  • Crochet 1 sc, 1 increase, 3 sc, 1 increase, 2 sc, 1 increase, 3 sc, 1 increase, and 1 sc (actual stitch count needed).
  • Cut the yarn leaving a tail, finish with an invisible join, weave in the yarn, and embroider reflections with white yarn.

5 a Save

Wings (Make 2):

  • Start with a magic circle of six single crochets (6 sc).

Round 1:

  • Crochet six increases (12 sts).

Round 2:

  • Crochet 12 sc.

After Round 3:

  • Crochet 4 sc, 2 decreases, 4 sc.

Round 4:

  • Crochet 3 sc, 2 decreases, 3 sc.

Round 5:

  • Crochet 2 sc, 2 decreases, 2 sc.
  • Finish the wing, leaving a long tail for attaching, close the hole, and weave in the starting yarn.

Assembly:

  • Sew the visor to the helmet using the long tail from the crochet piece, using pins to position it correctly.
  • Attach the wings on each side with a few stitches using the tails provided, positioning them properly.
